  2. @stingraysrock thanks. Now for the real fun-equipping it!

I also made a quick & easy project yesterday. It’s a storage pouch for the parchment rounds I use when I make tortillas. I’m getting pretty good at sewing rectangles. (I wrote on it with the wood burner)

  4. I took a leather carving class at the Tandy Leather store in Lyndhurst NJ. The teacher was very good and it was a small group. Consequently, she was able to give each of us the attention we needed. I enjoyed it very much.

Carving starts with a design printed on paper. You trace over it with tracing paper. Next, you put the tracing paper on dampened leather (ink side up) and then go over it with an embossing stylus. Now your design is on the leather.

You use a specialty knife, called a swivel knife to cut along the lines you just traced. Then, you can go over and inside the lines with a variety of stamps to give the design depth & texture. Once home, I dyed my piece. I haven’t decided this yet, but it will get used, as I am really happy with it. And yes, I spent a bunch of money of carving tools.

  6. And now I know what leather carving is. Nice work!

  7. Given that I like the way it came out, I have found a use for it. I glued it to the top of the wooden cigar box that holds my leather punches.

  8. That's a MAYhem project, eh? :)
  9. The only timeI do penmanship for business is when I sign my name.
  10. No, it was done in July.;)
  11. Let me say THIS about THAT. LOL.

  12. I made a case for my iPhone keyboard, along with the case and power cord. I did a carved flower on the front. I am really enjoying the carving for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I actually seem to have an aptitude for it and secondly, I like the fact that you can make larger images with it.

  14. I am currently working on another eyeglass case (from a Tandy kit.). This one has a robin carved on it, as it is to be a gift for my friend Robin. Obvious, I suppose, but I like it.

  16. For my Accubow ( a home-training device that can be drawn & released safely without an arrow), I made a bow case. I had a big piece of soft leather, that I used. I still have to add the straps, which I will do tomorrow.

  18. That case didn’t work as well as I had hoped, so I had to replace it with a hard case.

The new case is durable, but comes with no pockets for small items, so I made one. There are loops for straps, so I made a long, narrow leather pouch, to fit the space. I punched oval holes for the straps to go through.

The red pouch is a pencil case. I used an arrow (without a point) to hold it on the arrow rack.

  19. On my last trip to Tandy, my purchases included a glass slicker. This is a thick piece of glass, with smooth, rounded corners, used for smoothing out large surfaces. Being glass, I need a way to store it. So I used some 8 oz leather to make a case for it.

If I put just one half of the cover on it, I can use that to get a good grip on it.
