  2. Thanks Joe, heading into late afternoon down here!

Thanks @Screwtape John, when I internet searched cerakote all I got was images of firearms! So yes it must be durable. Needless to say down here in Oz firearms are less ubiquitous than in north america continent. Highly regulated. Many years ago I could not even buy a catapult/slingshot from the local gun shop here in Western Australia (against the law in case people use them for birds or cats) and yet they had crossbows etc for sale. Weird. Anyway I found one in Queensland on one of trips over that side of the island. I digress: North Shore Razors look they do some lovely work. So they coat the thread and internal mechanism as well if I understand your comments correctly? Wonder of the "cap feel" on the face is much different to chrome/nickel/rhodium?

Thanks John, Well my Semogue has had less than 5 outings so far, so hopefully it will stand the test of time.

  3. I have had my Semogue OC Brush for almost 5 yrs and never had a problem shedding. I also don't consider it floppy. Maybe the original knot in your brush got past QC. Anyway, I am glad you're happy with the reknotting of your Semogue brush John.

  12. Not the best shave I've performed, but I'll take it. It felt a little better when I corrected what I missed in a post-breakfast cleanup. Nice work along the cheeks and ONE sideburn(left). Passable on both Porcupines(a little bit missed on North). Good job on the left and mid-points of Cactus, but certainly could have done better on the right(not just the Ingrown Hair area, but ALL of the right). No cuts, Knicks, and polka-dots. One pass. After breakfast, I re-did the right sideburn(as mentioned)and felt a little better. Kinda Outstanding. I must do better tomorrow(same arsenal as this morning).

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: C V Heljestrand 14. 7/8” Camel Bone Scales
Brush: Simpson Trafalgar T2 Sovereign Synthetic
    Lather: PAA Old Salty
    Aftershave: PAA Old Salty
    Additional Care:
    Omega Alum
    Dickenson’s Original Witch Hazel
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm

The first “A” shave of the month of August. I alway received compliments from the missus when I use this soap. She loves the scent and the scent profile is as follows: “A Clean, Fresh, Bracing Scent of Salty, Crisp Ocean Air Surrounded by Hints of Balsam, Driftwood & Citrus with Quieter Notes of Oakmoss & Vanilla.”

A three pass shave with the CV H straight has my face Uber smooth and irritation free. Throughout the morning I have continued to get whiffs of this scent . Top notch!

Hope you all have a great day gentlemen.

I decided for most of this month that it will be mostly straight and shavette shaves with a sprinkling of adjustable ones. As one says, I need to get back to my first love. I have been lazy the last few months and I want to be on target for 1000 open blade shaves sometime in October. It is important because it will mark my 5th year in open blade / wet shaving.

Anyway, I need to discuss this shave. I just enjoy shaving with this shavette. It was my first introduction to open blade shaving and will always be grateful for learning to shave in this manner. I have sang to many deserved praises about Angora Soaps and saddened that this company went under because this soap is just fantastic. Here's today's lather as proof:

    20230803_163451.jpg

Did 3 passes for an error-free BBS shave. I took my time and decided to tweak my technique under my chin. I was able to do a slant stroke to get those difficult stragglers a lot easier. The toe is covered so I didn't have to worry about poking my neck, but I want to do this maneuver with a traditional straight. I will do a video so you can see what I mean.
Anyway, I got negligible feedback from the alum. Witch hazel and the Angora Soaps Midnight Lavender aftershave were splashed on respectively. Take care.
  20. Thanks Joe
