I haven’t used this razor in a long time - it bit me hard once and then a second time and I just kind of stayed away. I even tried to sell it once. Anyhow, today it provided a lovely shave. All is well

To be perfectly honest the Cryogen soap is no longer the coldest one available. The Stirling Glacials and a few others I have took away its title for the ultimate freeze!

Back to my fantastic Astra Greens for now because I love them so much. They’re so sharp yet so smooth and they have excellent longevity. The Glacial Eskimo Tuxedo soap’s gorgeous scent filled the bathroom, the lather buried my face, the menthol sensation froze the daylights out of me, and the postshave feeling was wonderful. The Prep added so much moisturizing, cooling and soothing, while the Snake Bite aftershave brought the freeze to another level. Last but not least the magnificent Bleu de Chanel fragrance and I’m ready to enjoy another day of retirement. Three glorious passes gave me a dynamite BBS shave that was so much fun!

The TSD Iced Lemongrass Shaving Soap lathered well with Tom's B400 Two-band Badger. Two passes and touch ups with the Bunny V3 Injector Razor and a Supply Black Label Blade Blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Dickinson's Witch Hazel and then Osage Rub. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

I just added yet another Gillette Super Speed to the family, this one a Forties vintage with no date stamp, so it was manufactured prior to 1951. It's missing the end caps but those are only cosmetic. The first stroke seemed a tad aggressive, moreso than my other vintage Super Speeds (1952, 1953, 1955 Blue Tip, 1960 Flare Tip) but it smoothed out after that. Nice, clean shave!

Shave of the Week Starting 7 August 2023

Going to be an interesting shave week. Starting to use the Zenith boar that I think is broken in enough to use. Been doing the 3 day frig procedure along with a lot of hand lathers. Worked pretty well today though so don't know that I'll need the Yaqi which I chose as a back up in case the Zenith didn't perform well. The Gem, with the custom handle, worked well, mild and comfortable. I think the change of handle has made the Gem even more mild than it all ready was. And an admission, I turned the Nivea Shave Stick into a puck by grating into a sealable container. I like it better that way. BTW, the custom handle was made for me by Geg aka Gaw9576. But the results today? Pretty good and my face is happy. Now go enjoy your day folks.

 

ASRazor shave, August 7th 2023, Micromatic Monday thread, use any ASR razor that uses a Gem razor any day of the week welcomed.

Razor : Ever-Ready Streamline 2nd generation- Mfg 1949-53, mid to upper mid range, well built to last with some care for generations. This is one of my favorite looking ASR razors with the thicker looking than normal base plate of other similar ASR razors.
To smooth out the shave I use a modern spent spline(RIGS) folded together tightly and slip it under the modern blades splined area from the 1950's that we use to this day, It mocks the older thicker splined blades that were used when razor was designed. Had a great close comfortable shave this morning.
Blade : Gem Personna SS PTFE (9) very sharp, excellent longevity, smooths out nicely, predictable + safest blade to handle.
Soap : Yaqi Musketeer Rapier, scent is wonderful(Aramis) with excellent lather qualities.
Brush : Yaqi "black marble" 24mm 3band silvertip, excellent lather generator, luxury pillow like soft tips, nice splay scrubber + great lather painter. This brush sure bloomed nicely and face feel is a warm gentle massage is what I experience, very enjoyable.
Pre shave : (Dedicated Cashmere synthetic)Brush wash whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser with a dollop of clear Aloe Vera on the cleaned beard area.
Prep : Cold water rinse after each pass of 2 + pickups. WTG + ATG + pickups.
Post shave : Witch hazel soap residual cleanse + Yaqi Musketeer rapier+ a dollop of CeraVe moisturizing lotion(scentless).
Results : or CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + no weepers= Had a excellent close comfortable shave with my Ever-Ready streamline SE razor with a coated Gem blade.
