    Hi all!

Had time to post my relaxing Sunday shave.

    20230820_083623.jpg

A more or less traditional set with my personal twist.
The brush has a newer synthetic knot and the razor and blade combination is far from traditional.
But a DF one pass shave that cannot be matched by any of my 100 plus razors, with any blade.
Along with the bar soap and antiperspirant-deodorant, feel like I walked out of a 1980's old spice TV commercial.

    Enjoy

Sooo.... mark you down as "Undecided" then....

I think it partly also depends on shaving rituals or habits. If someone only shaves once every few days, their long stubble is more likely to benefit from a pre-shave than someone who shaves daily. Also, if someone shaves after a hot shower, their whiskers will already be much softer than if they just briefly wash their face in a sink of cold water.

Ultimately though, I think you hit on the true answer at the end: if using a pre-shave is part of your ritual and you enjoy it, then why not pamper yourself a little even if it's not "absolutely necessary"?

Excellent shave and post John. I sometimes have extra soap on the bottom of the bowl and I either leave it for the next shave or place it back in the container. By the way, thanks for giving me another title for an August theme. Aquatic August will be suggested next year.

    SRS # 943 - Sample shave Sunday - Lemoncello

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: Thistle 5/8”
    Brush: Jayaruh 381 Badger/Boar
(Bullpen) - PAA The Green Ray 24 mm
    Lather: Van Yulay Lemoncello
(Bullpen) - Santa Fe Soap Ranch Redwood Vetiver
    Aftershave: Floïd Genuine Vigoroso
    Additional Care:
    Omega Alum
    Dickenson’s Original Witch Hazel
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm

The Van Yulay Lemoncello sample has met up with the Edmund Fitzgerald. Joe, @Trigger, the den is gradually getting smaller.

The performance of the Thistle razor is just plain outstanding. Three passes lead to a dolphin skin like smoothness. The alum report was very slight and the balm/aftershave had left my face feeling fabulous.

The challenge with this shave was with the badger-boar brush. I have never had any issues getting sufficient lather in the past with this brush. As the brush was whipped up the last remaining almond size sample of the soap, it magically made the lather disappear. Attempts to lather on my face left a slight trace of soap, not enough to even attempt a razor pace.

    Call to the bullpen.

I decided to change the brush to a synthetic along with the soap. The Santa Fe Soap Ranch soap and the PAA synthetic whipped up a nice lather.

Chalk this experience as an outlier.

    Enjoy you Sunday gentlemen.

Excellent shave Joe. It is strange that the brush made the lather disappear. It may be that you didn't have the right water/soap ratio for that pass. Of course. there might be another explanation. Unfortunately, I can't offer one.
