    Good afternoon.

    Shavette Shave #379
    Parker SRB
    Laser Ultra 1/2 DE Blade
    Assured for Men Dollar Tree DE Razor
    Assured for Men Dollar Tree DE Blade (fresh)
    MrEE Tuxedo Brush
    Lather Bros. Calle Ocho SS
    Stirling Alum Block
    Modessa Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 1 day
    Dome Turf: 3+ days

    Today was a face and dome shave. I decided to try out the sample of Calle Ocho that my esteemed wet-shaver Joe @JACarbone graciously piffed to me. Please note that the container says outerboros because Joe didn't have a sample container that had Calle Ocho. As an aside, Joe, was checking Pasteur's Pharmacy website and they have Lather Bros. Calle Ocho in stock. Here's the lather:

    The soap has a nice pleasant scent but I was kind of disappointed with the lather. It's the first time that I used this soap and I guess the soap/water ratio was off because it was very thin. However, it was slick so there's no complaints there. I barely had enough soap for my face shave so I had to add more to the bowl to prep for my head shave. Again, the lather was thin, but it was slick. I guess the next time that I used this soap is to use more soap and less water.
    Anyway, I am pleased with this soap's performance in providing a nice 2 pass shave on my face and neck for an error-free BBS shave. Yesterday's great shave was so close that I only needed 2 passes for the face I only needed 2 passes for the dome because the Assured for Men Razor with its proprietary fresh blade is quite aggressive.

    The alum feedback was zilch on the dome, but evident on the neck. Splashing on the witch hazel and the Stirling Tsuka aftershave ended the shave. Take care.

    @JACarbone Joe, I rechecked Pasteur's and the Ocho Calle is not available.

    (Abbreviated August, Anything goes, Adapting-Adjusting-on-the-fly August)

    23 Aug 2023 brdr.jpg

    24 hours

    Abbreviated (but not rushed) shave

    Prep = Cold water rinse 30s x 2 only, normally 3
    Preshave = none, as an experiment
    Cream = TOBS Jermyn Street/tube
    Brush = Puro Tasso boar
    Bowl = None
    Razor = Muhle R89
    Blade = Permasharp (2)
    Passes = 3 + touch ups
    Post = Cold water rinse, Alum, CWR, towel dry, Thayers’, Rinfrescante
    Scent = Proraso Cypress and Vetiver
    Damage = Slight nick below left jawline unusual area for me

    Score = 7/10
    Comments = -1 point for left over stubble, -1 point for nick, -1 point for less pleasurable shave
    My reasoning for leaving out the preshave was (1) I didn’t have any left (2) I may not need it, (3) the TOBS cream should to the same thing, (4) save some time…
    The TOBS cream seemed to get thinner during the shave, and needed frequent topping up….may need to be used in combo with something else like glycerine or different soaps, this won’t be replaced when it is finished

    The Gel Riparatore was all gummed in in the tube and despite coaxing wasn’t game to emerge from the tube: I don’t use this often, it has dried out beyond usable
    Normal Stiptick (spelling?) to the rescue

    Still a good shave but not the best….

    Have some great shaves

    Nice shave nevertheless Joe, interesting bowl this one. Btw, thanks for showing the thinner lather, that helps reinforce what I am sometimes getting. Need more soap, less water, this is what I often find when trying new soaps/creams.

    Thank you @brit Gary

    Sad to see a good soap being unavailable anymore but I am sure you others just as good. Btw, will you be replacing the Aqua Velva Musk Joe?

    Thanks Joe, I might get used to it!

    Nice shave Chris! I look at these types of shaves as opportunities to learn to correct and fine tune our technique. Take care.

    Thanks Chris. I will try to add more soap and less water the next time I use this soap. Btw, I purchased that bowl at a thrift shop for under $3.00. It makes a great lather because it has bumps to facilitate friction when lathering a soap.

    thanks Joe, learning on the trot, I could go back to my Progress Arko and usual setup but that could get boring, or be a reliable set up as and when needed.

    Nice bowl, hope to see more of it!

    Thanks Gary
