  13. Hope all is well James. Sounds like you have a good thing going. How many remaining soaps do you have left and what was the number at it highest? Just curious because it is going to take me about 12 years to go through all of my soaps.

    More of a rescue shave than a real shave
    25 Aug 2023.jpg
    48 hours

    Prep = usual Cold Water
    Pre-shave = Jermyn street cream/tube
    Soap / Cream = Mitchel Wool Fat failed, then switched to Arko
    Brush = Semogue initially to start with
    Bowl = White wide deep bowl first, then Timeless
    Razor 1 = Gillette New OC restored
    Razor 2 = M Progress (2|3) to the rescue
    Blade = Gillette Platinum (2)
    Passes = 4 with touch ups
    Technique = Usual attack but the lather was not up to it
    Post = cold water rinse, alum gave some slight stinging, cwr, Thayers, Nivea, Rinfrescante
    Scent = Guerlain Pour Homme
    Damage = felt slight nick central chin, but no blood

    Comments = a bit of a struggle. The MWF only produced bubbles, not thick lather, I tried adding water, tried loading more onto the brush, tried taking it back to the Timeless bowl, all failed
    Dragging dry non slick lather.

    Plan B: Adapting on the fly :Reverted to Arko face lathering with Puro Tasso and finished the shave with the Merkur Progress
    Score = 7/10
    Salvaged the shave, rather than succeeded, need to revise my MWF approach
    Took far too long. Will have to revise the MWF technique: too dry? Too wet? Wrong brush? Wrong bowl? I think the Timeless bowl with the grooves encourage aeration of the MWF esp if too much water was added too fast

    Sticking with the MWF after reading the forums….

    36 hours growth, 6 PM Saturday shave

    Another Cold Water Shave

    Three separate lathering up episodes for each pass varying the brush and loading technique

    Initial passes the MWF felt too dry and draggy
    Adding water only resulted in a copious bubbly mess

    Started from the beginning again with the Omega 49, nice stiff boar bristles, loading from the puck and adding only a few drops of water at a time, finally reaching something looking like lather and not a bubble bath

    Razor : my favourite Merkur Progress to be on the safe side
    No damage, finally achieved a shave of some sorts…

    27 Aug 2023

    13 hour growth, 7 AM Sunday morning shave

    Another Cold Water shave
    Initially just thought I would only practice lathering the MWF, but nope, I just had to shave, even with only 13 hours growth
    Razor = Gillette New replated OC
    Brush = Semogue to start with, switched to the Omega 49
    Blade = Gillette Platinum (3)
    Was planning to just do a one pass ATG once I dialled in the lather

    Better effort with the MWF today, just loading the tips of an almost dry brush, making sure there was no water in the knot, and then slowly dribbling in some water Gently mixing is better than aggressive lathering for me, because that just results in too many bubbles. Something approaching slick lather painted on to face, still a bit dry, dipped brush tips into water and adding to face finally gave me what I was looking for, slick protection

    2 passes with the NEW, in all directions and ATG with a sensation of one minor slice on the chin but no blood

    Post: CWR, Alum stung the chin, CWR, Thayers, 2 dollops of Bay Rum onto the hands, rubbed and air dried for around 5 – 10 seconds, minimal burning

    Since I survived a 12 hour shave I think I will try this again, shaving 2x daily giving me more time with the MWF

    MWF: needs blooming, thick loading into a still brush, small increments of water else the sweet spot is passed to quickly. Might try scooping some into the bowl next time rather than loading from the puck
    Hope you are having a Super Sunday and Super Shaves

    27 Aug 2023

    Plan for tonight: 13 hour Growth, 8 PM Sunday Shave

    I will go back to the Merkur, stick with the Omega 49 and give the MWF another crack with the Gillette Platinum day 4
    Feeling more confident on where I need to go with this

  20. Guess you were keeping with the adjustable theme but “on the fly”. I have great success using synthetic and boars for the MWF. Not so much with the badger.
