Joe, I agree. They are , at least this one , is pretty darn good alright. Some 7 to 9 years ago I tried probably close to a dozen different GEM models. They’re all so good looking, and I really wanted to love them, but I just couldn’t get them to work. This thread has warmed me up to reevaluating and reconsidering the format.

Late as usual here, but fabulous introduction, Joe!L

Difficult choices you have given me though:

Single Edge September, sure! I use my Supply 2.0 injector a lot, but also have vintage Schicks, vintage Gems, and I believe a shavette. Not likely to use the shavette but the others are possible...

Stirling September - love it! I have four sets of Stirling soap/splash that have received no love over the last year (or two ... or three...). So good idea.

Shave Stick September - check! I have Palmolive, Jeeves of Hudson Street Key Lime and oodles of Arko in stick form!

Synthetic Brush September - why not? I have several of those (7) including some of my favourite brushes.

But I was also thinking of making it Shaving Cream September, because many of mine have been sitting unused so long that they are drying up. And I still have lots of Samples to test....

    Choices, choices...

Thanks John. Isn't this hobby great because of the many choices in shaving paraphernalia. I really look forward to my shaves. Sometimes I plan them and other times it's a spur of the moment thing. Unfortunately, there are too many non-traditional shavers that still use cartridges and canned goo and wonder why they get in-grown hairs. I'm saddened that they see shaving as a mundane experience because of it.

It has been a busy weekend. I'm finally seeing the light at the end if the tunnel on a project my dad started about 17 years ago. He acquired a Farmall Super A and rebuilt the motor and front end. The project sat in his shop for years and I finally got the final drives and PTO resealed and reinstalled. My son and I cranked the tractor yesterday and was probably the first time it has run in 10 years. This was the last engine my dad built so it was great to hear it run. I have some more work to do to the tractor but we will get there. I've rotated the final drives 180 degrees and built a new front axle. This lowered the tractor 16 inches. It is just a toy for my grandson and I to ride around on. I've promise the tractor to him. Enough of my tractor ramblings.

It was a no shave three day weekend but the ATT took care of business. I'm smooth and work ready.

    Happy Tuesday everyone!

Thanks I appreciate the kind comments. Dad was always messing with the Farmalls and my son just finished restoring a Super M. He is just carrying on the tradition and he keeps me involved.

Of course we miss Dad but I look around and see a lot of things he touched. He taught my son a lot.

    Take care.

Terrific shave and tractor history that is connected to your dad Danny. That's a wonderful tribute to your father to keep that tractor and eventually passing it to your grandson. Take care.

    Screwtape A Shaving Butterfly

Wednesday September 6 (early morning) - S is for September: Single Edge, Shavestick, Synthetic, Styptic pencil (Standby), Splash; Supply, Schick, Semogue, Stirling

    Prep: hot shower
Razor: Supply 2.0 injector with SE comb plate / Schick Plus Platinum (vintage US-made)(2)
Brush: Semogue SOC cherrywood reknotted with APShaveCo Tuxedo 24mm Synthetic knot
    Soap: Palmolive shave stick
Post: rinse, alum, rinse, Stirling Barbershop splash
Last shave: Wed Aug 30 early morning - almost exactly 7 days ago

I decided to go all-out for my first "S is for September" shave. I used a Supply 2.0 single-edged injector fitted with the SE comb plate, loaded with a vintage Schick blade. I paired that with a Synthetic brush made by Semogue to face lather my Palmolive Shavestick. And instead of my normal witch hazel or non-alcoholic face tonic, I finished off the shave with a Splash made by Stirling.

The only "S" I didn't use was the Styptic Pencil, which remained on Stand-by and then was returned to the medicine cabinet.

The Palmolive shave stick had been languishing in one of my cartons of soap for several years. I had forgotten what a nice soap it is. It doesn't explode into masses of lather the way an Arko stick does, but it rubbed onto my damp whiskers easily, and provided enough lather for two multiple passes with that first rub. The scent has grown fainter over the years but is still a pleasant, generic "clean" smell. And as a tallow and palm oil soap, it was very slick and protective.

I believe the vintage Schick American-made injector blades are sharper and smoother than the modern "Chicks" or Personnas. It felt like the blade was just wiping lather off my face rather than removing week-old whiskers. Two passes gave me a near BBS.

The Stirling splash was another little-used item from my box of aftershaves. Stirling Barbershop is again a pleasant, generic "shaving" scent - I don't honestly know how to describe it. The scent isn't overpowering but remains slightly present for a few hours. And the splash is good stuff: alcohol and witch hazel to cleanse and disinfect, aloe to soothe, and glycerin to moisturize. I don't know why I don't use my Stirling splashes and balms more often (or my other splashes and balms for that matter).

How would I rate the shave overall? "Simply Stellar!"
