I am a witch hazel, followed by a a/s splash, finishing up with a balm in the winter. In the summer I can give up the balm. Sometimes I take a shot of the splash to really close up my pores.
AS Splash. I find anything else to be counter productive, other then AS milk or light balm but usually used on really cold days. IF I have a really bad shave then I bust out the Alum Block.
Depends on the time of year. Around now, I need the extra moisturizing from a balm or milk, but mostly AS splash for me.
When you say counter productive what do you mean? The other products do not soothe or heal your face?
Leave me sticky/tacky and gives me breakouts. I have to use a face scrub to get it off the next day. Kind of feels like I just put on a clay mask and forgot to take it off.
Alum Block & A/S Splash most days Occasionally I'll use something with more moisture instead of a splash on a cold, dry day. My oily skins responds very well to the Alum, but I know it's not for everyone.
95% of time......AS milk(TGR ASB-but its a milk!) mix with AS splash. 2 squirts of milk + few dashes of splash and I am set! I also use gels as well. 444 balm and NB gel.
I've only used TSD aftershave milk (subzero) since I got it. The stuff is amazing. It hands down beats all the major english shaving brands products, Kiehls, Anthony Logistics, and Zirh. The only thing that can come close is T&H, but that stuffs a butttttload. And I love the options with TSD.
I never really understood mixing a splash w/ a milk or balm. Seems like the scents would collide for one thing. Also balms and milks are too sticky. What is TGR?
The Gentlemens Refinery http://www.thegr.com/index.cfm?event=ProductDetails&ProductID=43&CategoryID=81 The ingredient list is nice and it is basically unscented. It doesnt interfere at all with the splash. It does have a very light lavender scent but dissipates immediately. Its called a balm but has same characteristics as a milk. Very soothing and superb moisturizing qualites. Mixing gives you the best of both worlds IMO. I use to apply splash then lotion. It hid the scent of the splash. Mix is more of a splash with moisturizer Never tacky and dries perfect every time. I dont use the balm with SCS though b/c the amount of glycerine in SCS but I am sure it would be fine. In fact it might alleviate the tacky situation BTW: probably wont buy it again b/c its expensive as hell but a bottle last forever! Pre measured pumps help conserve and a little goes along way.
A bottle of TGR last about 9 months? Its like a third of the price of an adult ticket to Disney? Hmmmmm? I spend $40 every time I go to the Falcons game on beer.....whats wrong with spending it on something that will last 9 months?
Most times I use an aftershave splash, but I'll use a balm if my face is dry or if I had a rough shave.
The aftershave treatment is critical; must get it right or the rest of the day is a complete downer. I always finish my shave with a splash of Classic Ice Blue Aqua Velva or Aqua Velva Musk. Once the splash dries I follow it with a dab of Aqua Velva Ice Balm. This 2 step process leaves me feeling like a million bucks.
