SRS # 955 - Stirling Semptember Shave - Bergamot Lavender

    Rating: 5 / 5

Razor: Double Duck Twin Duck Special #1
Brush: Shore Shave Blue Nebula w/ Paragon 25 mm Boar
    Lather: Stirling Bergamot Lavender
Aftershave: Chatillon Lux Pure Lavender Toner
    Additional Care:
    Omega Alum
    Dickenson’s Original Witch Hazel
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm

I have not used the Stirling BL in a while so it was time to give it an opportunity to shine. The combination of the Stirling and Chatillon Lux software provided an excellent start and finish to this shave.

The Twin Duck straight continues to deliver super close shave. Three passes with a silent post shave alum report. I am set for my day which includes taking Anthony to the gym, my own X3 Bar Pull workout and the Aerosmith later this evening.

Hope you all have a great day gentlemen.

    Thanks guys!

But I really want to focus on the technique required to use such a tool.
I really don't think I need a 30 day focused run with this.
But it might go 30 days just for fun.
A person can use any razor if their technique is sound.
That's what I want to focus on.

I don't think I need pictures since I continue with the same gear, however, I did have an incident with the SV OC. I didn't get the head even close to tight yesterday morning - like maybe 3 mm from being fulled screwed in and that razor was HARSH yet efficient! Halfway through my shave I looked questioningly at the razor and realized it was really loose and quickly screwed it down and the rest of the shave was pretty uneventful!

    Prep: Shower
    Lather: Bigelow
    Brush: Synthetic
    Razor: SV OC
    Blade: Astra green
    Post: TSD Lime

Sept 9 50th HS Reunion Shave

    Good afternoon.

    Gillette Slim Adjustable (8)
Gillette Wilkinson Sword DE Blade (4,5)
    Rockwell Synthetic Brush
Stirling Spice SS, AS and EdT
    Stirling Alum Block
    Modessa Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 1 day
    Dome Turf: 2 days

I an getting ready for my 50th reunion so I definitely wanted to shave my head and face. I wanted to use my Fatboy, but I accidently picked up the Slim because my glasses were not on my face. Lol! Anyway, the Stirling Spice bundle was the choice of the day because the scent stays on for quite awhile
Yes, I was light on the EdT. I don't want to stink up the place. Lol! Anyway, here's my lather:

    20230909_164447.jpg

Three passes all the way around gave me a BBS result without any errors. I don't want to look like a bloody mess, especially for this event. There was some alum feedback, but no biggie. Splashed on the witch hazel and the matching aftershave. The piéce DE resistance was a few squirts of the eau de toilette. It should die down in about an hour as I arrive for this evening's gala. Take care.

    Greetings,

    Sunday morning shave.

Everything in my shave this morning paired together wonderfully.

SE razors truly are fantastic shaving tools.... I have mentioned it many times before in my posts if I had known how wonderful smooth, & efficient they were especially Injector razors when I first ventured into the wonderful world of traditional wet shaving I probably wouldn't have bought a DE razor as they provide and give me everything I require for a close comfortable shave.

An enjoyable 2 pass + pick- ups close comfortable shave with no errors to report...Finishing the shave off with a few small dollops of Boots Freshwood ASB.

My face is feeling super smooth & smelling divine. ;)

Keep safe and enjoy your Sunday ladies & gentlemen.

    10 Sep 2023.jpg

Nearly 3 days growth. After my last shave on Thursday I felt a bit off-colour, Friday at work was a complete write-off, the whole of Saturday was spent in bed
Today’s Sunday Shave can be regarded as a sort of resurrection shave

I decided to bestow the privilege to my Gillette Popular. It is a bit worn, and not much of a looker from an aesthetic point of view, but it performed its task as a blade holder admirably well

Prep = Cold Water Shave and Prep, Proraso Blue
Soap / Cream = TOBS Eton College Collection
Brush = Simpson Chubby 2 Best Badger. I am not Best Buddies with this Badger yet, but I am beginning to appreciate its properties more and more
    Bowl = Timeless
Razor = the idiosyncratic Gillette 1939 No 46 Popular
    Blade = Permasharp (1)
Passes = Three + touch ups, followed by more attention to Zone 8
Post = Usual cold water rinse, the Alum remained entirely mute, more CWR, Thayers. Clubman Pinaud and Nivea to round off a wonderful shave
    Damage = None

    Score = 9.5/10

Comments = Because the Popular’s cap is a bit tired looking and rough, it was clear that I needed lots of slick lather for the shave. Hence I stuck with the strategy of Two Scoops of the Croap to completely fill the Chubby 2. (The term Lather Hog can be used when not enough lather is created to completely fill the brush, from knot to crown to the point of overflowing.) Strategy seems to be working so far…

(With 1000mg Panadol on board and suitably attired with N95 mask I set off to do some much needed grocery shopping. Today was the first day after my wife’s accident that I took her out to the back yard in her wheelchair to visit her beloved garden. We shared some much needed pruning and enjoyed the spectacle of the birds nesting, and bees feeding off the flowers of the New Zealand Christmas tree. We are blessed indeed

Hope your weekend filled you all with joy and happiness

    Good morning all.

A surprise in the mailbox yesterday.
The Yaqi slant razor head I ordered some time ago was here.
The Yaqi Top Aggressive razor head.
I put it on a generic handle I had bought a few years ago, loaded a new Feather blade, then lathered up.
Before getting into much of the shave details...

    20230910_073353.jpg
Looking as close as my camera will focus you can see that along with a good amount of blade exposure the gap between the safety bar is wide.
Also note that the top cap is relatively thin giving me the chance to ride the cap heavy without lifting the blade off the skin.
This makes it possible to run at a low angle smoothing out the shave.

    20230910_073341.jpg
Also it's a hybrid open comb, full open on the top cap but only has indents on the bar.
It is a slant as you can see.
I took these pictures after the shave so it's kinda gunky even after a few rinses.

    So how was the shave?

    20230910_073641.jpg

A 2 pass face shave was on the docket for my Sunday morning, so I didn't waver from that.
I always start on the face first and with any new razor I ride heavy cap then adjust as needed for a few strokes.
I was able to adjust to a nice angle smoothing out the shave making it cut well and still being comfortable.
I was able to get a very close and comfortable 2 pass shave that was somewhat comparable to other razors I use that don't have a safety bar.
A bump on the right side of my jaw line was slightly lowered with some leakage.
Even being on blood thinners, it was easily quenched with a styptic pencil.
I figured it would happen, so no surprise there.
No other leaks, scrapes, or burns anywhere else on the face.
I'm very smooth and very happy with this shave.

The head shave was just as good.
    My normal one pass.
I first located 3 possible issues or bumps that most less efficient razors would simply pass over, like the fur they leave behind after a stroke.
I was not disappointed, the razor flattened them out just like I expected.
Causing very minor leakage and not hard to stop, more of a scrape than a cut or scratch.
Now i noticed that because of the great amount of blade exposure, I would say you must land this razor flat.
Landing it with a corner significantly down could cause the corner of the blade to bury into the skin, a small cut would be the outcome.
I have this on Toms blade on a stick and my Frankin Hawk too.
    You've been warned.
The gourd is smooth and clean, just as I like.

    My opinion.
If you like a razor that is more like a super speed you'll dislike this tool.
If however you like, need and use an efficient beard mower and can control a razor by riding the cap.
This might be your cup of tea.
For most though, I'd say using a stiffer blade than a feather might be chosen, if you decide to pull the trigger.

At about $15 US for two, I just had to try it, and I'm glad I did.

    Hope this helps.
    All
    Enjoy!
