I am so lucky to have gear that I like, albeit, there are some that I like more than others.
I picked out this razor because looking at my records this is my 20th shave in 4yrs since I first honed it. Anyway, I purchased this razor new for just 80 dollars. Unfortunately, you can't get a new straight for that much any longer. The soap is just dynamite because of its performance and scent. Here's today's lather:

    20230913_153557.jpg

I made enough lather for more than 4 passes. In fact, I did 4 passes (WTG, ATG, XTG, WTG). I have only done 4 passes once a long time ago. Anyway, I got a trouble-free BBS result.
The alum feedback was negligible. Splashed on the witch hazel and the wonderful matching aftershave to end this nice session. Take care.
  9. Wouldn't you know it? I asked about alum and soft bragged that I hadn't used a styptic pencil for a while and this morning I found a blemish of some sort on my cheek and had to deal with a bit of blood. Tiny bit, but nonetheless it was there.

    Prep: Shower
    Lather: Bigelow
    Brush: Synthetic
    Blade: Astra (6)
    Razor: SV OC
Post: cool rinse and TSD Lime.

Single pass and realized that by 2:30 p.m. I am feeling a bit of stubble. So, 2 passes likely needed to keep smooth later in the day. I'm sure the middle school volleyball players won't notice while I keep score tonight.
  10. Pride goeth before a fall. Nevertheless, it was a fine shave Troy.

  13. Great shave, Gary! And the gold rim on the shave bowl really picks up and adds to the gold shine on that Tech!
  14. Great shave and pic.

I have never heard of Lakewood Soap Company. How is its stuff?
  15. Actually, you really need to watch yourself, Troy. I have heard that middle school volleyball players are absolutely vicious critics of poor shaves...
  16. Great shave, Joe! Four passes is about two more than I can do without starting to get feedback.

And $80 for a brand-new Dovo German straight would be a steal nowadays...

  17. Wednesday September 13 - September S is for Skin-Clearing; Menthol Monday

Prep: Hot shower with Aleppo soap
Razor: Supply 2.0 injector with SE comb plate / vintage US-made Schick Plus Platinum (5)
Soap: Neutrogena Skin Clearing Shave Cream
    Brush: none
    Lather Bowl: none
    Post: none except rinse
Last shave: Monday - 2 days

    IMG_20230911_171050_kindlephoto-64131404.jpg

I decided to repeat Monday's shave - everything except the number of shaves on the blade.

One pass removed the thin layer of cream along with all my whiskers.

No post-shave treatment was necessary. I am clean and refreshed and ready to go!

Note for Chris @ChrisB: I put the cream on with my right hand, rinse off and dry my hands, then shave holding my razor in my left hand. Slippery hands on the razor from spreading the latherless cream/gel are not an issue.
  18. thank you John.:):eatdrink047:.part of the joy for me is the shave pics..it keeps me interested, otherwise i could just use the cool stuff and vanish..;)
  19. They were just so excited that a teacher was there! I keep score at the home games so they are getting used to seeing me there. I think I'm the only teacher that goes to their games. Makes for better behavior in the classroom for sure.

I ordered an alum bar and some Personna blades last night on Amazon and they arrived today, so I'll be giving them both a try tomorrow.
