I'm glad this doesn't happen here, and if it does, it is not very often. Scenario: Someone asks about razor X. Possibly how it compares to razor Y. Replies: I've never used razor X, but... blah blah blah blah blah Rhetorical Questions: Now after you say "I've never used razor X", why in anyone's name would I care to listen further? Then said person often starts recommending razor Z, and starts waxing poetic about its virtues. I've even seen people recommending razor Z after declaring that they hadn't used razor Z either! Does this drive anyone else as crazy as it does me?
Perhaps it’s just the nature of hobbies in the age of the www? Folks read the opinions of others and assume the license to repeat as dogma.
It's like those people who do Amazon reviews and give the item they ordered five stars along with a comment like "I can hardly wait to open the box and see what it looks like." So... you gave it five stars and haven't even opened the box yet? Oye! - Bax
In general I agree, buut.....there are exceptions. EJ DE89 vs Muhle R89 - since they jointly designed the head, I would expect any differences to be inconsequential. I have an R89 head so I feel qualified to comment on the DE89. I don't think I have done so, but that's not the point. Or the Maggard razors. Over there they refer to their razors by the handle name rather than the head. To me, a V3A head is a V3A head no matter what handle it's on. Merkur, Fatip, Weishi, and Baili have all made razors under contract for other sellers.
Oh of course, I understand those exceptions. Maggard razor terminology can be just as ambiguous as Fatips, as in the other thread I started. I see people refer to Maggard razors by handle all the time. Let's see, they have their V3, V3M, V3A, OC, Slant, and a stainless steel rebranded Mamba .70 clone from DS Cosmetics. Refering to the razor by handle name is meaningless. Not to get too far off-topic, but Maggard lists their different colored heads as a different item, too -- so if you want to see all reviews for their V3 head, it will be scattered around all over the place -- from different colored V3 heads, to reviews for handles where people bought it with the V3 head, though in that case you wouldn't know it, since they don't identify the head they bought with the handle. DE89/R89 are the same, but many have said that the KCG head is the same, and go on explaining how they think they are experts on a DE89 because they have the KCG, but as time has gone by, we have discovered that the KCG head is not the same. I was told that directly on another thread here earlier this year -- the KCG is milder. But the bottom line is stuff like that rarely, if ever, happens here. So we should all be happy campers!
Well, I don't know anything about this topic, but what about threads where they say, "This is specifically for X", and then people post, "I do do/have that".
I've stayed at Holiday Inn Express' before, so that makes me an expert on just about anything. Who am I kidding, that makes me an expert on everything.
I admit to once buying a product based on a noticeable amount of negative posts by people who hadn't used it. I felt the need to know what it was that people didn't want me to see.
I admit, I have done this. I try to give some context, such as I have heard such and such from the reviews. I hope this makes my comments helpful. I would prefer to know if it does not.
I try to listen to as many people as possible, about the quality of blades, before I buy. So far, so good. Only been burned a couple of times.
Yes, that's fair. Most of the examples I'm talking about are people who instead of even suggesting other links, or perhaps stating what they've heard, they start recommending other razors. Ex: "Has anyone here used a Game Changer? I'm looking into perhaps the .68p?" "I've never used a Game Changer, but I've used a Lupo. It's a wonderful razor blah blah blah."
KCG a clone of DE89? I laughed so hard my sides hurt! I'd like to get my hands on some of whatever they're smoking. Even a quick glance from the end at the KCG shows that it resembles the Merkur more than the DE89, although it's not a clone of the Merkur either. Amen to that!!!
