    Good afternoon.

    Straight Razor Shave #497

    Semogue OC Super Badger Brush

Had a very nice 3 pass shave with my hardly used Wosty near wedge. This razor is approximately 130 yrs old and still provides a nice, comfortable close shave. I picked today's soap because it is a mild, barbershop scent that doesn't clash with any aftershave and it also gives a nice, slick lather.
    Here's today's lather:

I achieved a BBS result without any issues. The alum gave zero feedback. Finished this shave in my usual way. I am delighted how this shave ended. Take care.

    48 hours

Prep = Cold Water Prep and shave, Proraso Pre shave
    Gillette Rocket Flare tip
    Stirling Barber shop
    Omega 49
    Timeless bowl

Blade = Bic Blade (2) still good !
Usual 3 passes with intrapass buffing and ATG

DFS + BBS + minimal weep lower lip too much buffing

ASL = Stirling Bay Rum: lovely stuff, lasts well into the evening

This was another Great Friday shave
The Flare Tip and Bic (2) proved fine but needed more buffing than usual, hence the minor damage

Thanks Chris. I also need 2 more shavette shaves to hit #500 as well.
By Oct 18, I will have 500 traditional straight razor shaves and 500 shavette shaves for 1,000 open blade shaves or *1,000 straight razor shaves.

*Some wetshavers say that shavette shaves are straight razor shaves and others don't. That's why I say traditional straight razor shave (using a non-shavette razor) and open blade razors/ straight razors (shavettes and straights).

    Chris,
Thank you! I appreciate the support that this community offers (or is it validation?)

Razor Emporium does a fantastic job of communicating the status as the work progresses. They received the razor on Monday and I received an email with the status and initial evaluation. On Wednesday I received another email telling me the razor was now in the process of removal of the old plating and buffing and polishing the parts in preparation for the finishing.

Their website indicates that the normal processing time takes about 2-3 weeks, so I'll just wait patiently. Heck, I waited quite a few years to find a Toggle, so a few weeks won't hurt me.

Now time to get ready to watch the 80% solar eclipse a bit later this morning. Current temps are 33F or just above 0C, so I'd better bundle up and perhaps not shave until the afternoon.

Very nice shaves and setup Barry! I believe that I've read that the Fatip is an aggressive razor. Have you ever tried it on your dome using a mild to medium blade?

Thank you Joe. The Fatip is an aggressive razor, and to answer your question to have I tried doing a head/dome shave with the Fatip is yes, using a Dorco Prime platinum blade which was a good match.Out of curiosity I'll do a head/dome shave with the more assertive GLB blade.

DE Shave # 485 - Obscuretober Shave -THB Shave Cream
    Stupidity shave
    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: Ming Shi Futur Clone
    Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (1)
Brush: Leo Frilot Custom NYR 26 mm Synthetic
Lather: The Holy Black Shaving Cream
    Aftershave: B & M Reserve Spice
    Additional Care:
    Omega Alum
    Dickenson’s Original Witch Hazel
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm

I decided to go with the with the THB Shaving Cream for it’s inaugural shave. The tub has been sitting in the lower part of my den since mid 2022. The scent description is described as Gunpowder and Spice. I really did not pick up the gunpowder scent.

This cream was part of an order as a free addition for the the purchase of their, THB, barbers’ Shavette and Secret Stash soap. As a result, at some point during this month the Secret Stash soap will make it inaugural appearance as well.

Regarding the shave, it was outstanding. The synthetic brush whipped up a nice slick lather. The Ming Shi razor performed wonderfully delivering a close and error free shave. The only challenge with this razor, which takes some time getting accustomed to, is the bulkiness of the razor head which makes it challenging shaving the upper lip area.

I finished off the shave with a nice splash of the B & M Reserve Spice.
    IMG_5522.jpeg

    Now for today’s stupidity:
    IMG_5523.jpeg

For those that own the Merkur Futur or a Chinese knockoff like the Ming Shi understand that loading the blade requires snapping the cap into place when loading or unsnapping the cap to remove the blade. Well, in my attempts to unload the blade, even though I told myself to wait a few minutes (Hence the eventual stupidity), the cap slipped as I was removing it. Slice!

Live and learn: Next time use a towel to cover the cap for removal.

    Have a great day gentlemen.

Well, I don't know where my JUST LIKE YESTERDAY rubberstamp is, so I'll have to put today's shave in writing. Course you probably already know what it was like. One glitch cost me a to-ranked commentary(a Knick on S. Porcupine, the chin). I had my Oudtober stuff out for Round 2(second Oud offering). That tall Razorock Plissoft brush("400") helped set up my face ane neck for the fine shave(save for the Knick). See ya next time around, buddeh. The Agadir f0r the post-shave, and I closed with the AB Millionaire cologne.2 passes. Super Duper Outstanding.

Great shave set up Joe...Regarding the Ming Shi incident ,I've had a very very, near miss with mine luckily for me I dislodged the cap & the blade flew off and didn't come in contact with any of my digits! It only takes seconds, I'm now paranoidly over-cautious when removing the blade from my Ming Shi's yes, I have two One was gifted to me the other I bought....Hopefully the slicing incident won't inhibit you from shaving until your injury heals. Take care, and enjoy the remainder of the weekend. -Barry. :)
