    Fab Fatip shave Barry. I also like Arko for the performance and had no issues with its scent. The same holds true with Tabac. Also, I like Pinaud-Clubman Classic and the Veg. All these products have the reputation of being distasteful due to their scents. It just illustrates how people's perception of smell is quite different. Enjoy your afternoon.

    Great Fatip shave, Barry! You have some neat shaving products that I haven't seen around here in Canada. In this case, the Turkish brush and cologne are new to me. For that matter, your brands of prep washing soaps ae usually unfamiliar.

    I am very familiar with Arko sticks though, and, like you, have no issues with the scent.

    Great shave, Chris!

    The earlier Gillettes, including the NEW, are generally more aggressive than the later ones, including the FlareTip and especially the Tech.

    For me, in the beginning, Arko certainly had the giggle factor but now I quite welcome the scent. Strangely the scent still comes through later in the day. Possibly because its relatively new.

    Thank you Joe, it's warming up down here, the eyelids are getting heavier ...

    Yep, I have noticed that too.

    Not the best way to get halfway through Oudtober, but it'll do. Definitely a TechniqueTrumpsTools shave, as I went a little too hard down at South Porcupin resultimg in 3 cuts(all painless). That frustration threw off the rest of the shave(Cactus), as I didn't do as well as I should have(no damge at least). The tools were great-more Razorock Tuscan Oud soap and the Agadir(Oud Wood)aftershave. 2 passes. Part 3 of Oudtober returns next week-end. Fairly Outstanding.

    Well this was a decent shave with 3 passes. However, I am more than empathetic to Joe C's plight on his last shave. I knicked my neck and dropped my shavette with the blade landing on my right pinky and the digit next to it. I guess that I had to go one better than you my friend. Lol! Stuff happens. Anyway, I continued and finished the shave. Hit my wounds with the alum, witch hazel and hydrogen peroxide for good measure. Man did the alum sting! Of course, I bandaged my fingers.
    Anyway, here's my lather:

    Finished this 2 pass shave in my usual manner. Take care.

    Lovely OUD shave Joe. This piqued my interest in Oud.

    Today, somewhat late to the party I looked up Oud, not knowing what it was. Seems like it has quite a history going back to the 1400s and popular in the Middle East, and...quite pricey.
    And then there is a whole range of varieties, with varying characteristics. I am not big on scents, but if I am in a shop next time I might try some samples.

    Artisans use a synthetic oud or a fragrance that is similar to it.

    16 Oct 2023 (OUT of the Ordinary October!)

    Deviating from my normal approach today, thought I would try a limited prep and one pass shave reducing clean up time, taking inspiration from ideas on this thread

    Beard = 28 hours

    Prep = Dabbed face wet only, no soaking, no Preshave lotion
    Cream = Palmolive cream in a tube, straight to the face
    Brush = None
    Bowl = None
    Razor = Gillette red tip re-plated
    Blade = Elios (1)
    Passes = Single
    Technique = following the beard map and directions as usual
    Post = CWR, Alum was effectively silent, CWR, Thayers, Proraso Rinfrescante ASL, followed by some Cerave hydrating lotion after the clean up
    Scent = Guerlain pour homme
    Damage = some minor weepers left lower chin

    Score = won’t score this because this is not my normal routine

    Comments = It can be done. There are some smooth areas. Some rough areas but socially acceptable. Despite a single pass only, meaning no buffing or additional passes there was some minor skin damage. This means, that for me, the Preshave Prep, full lather and brush application is important. Applying the cream by hand works, but not as well.

    Definitely a time saver when time is limited

    But, not as enjoyable as a full shave

    Have a great Monday

    It's always good to try a different method to achieve a quick shave in case a situation warrants it.

    This is my second go-round with Hub City Soaps' Pages. I have a little problem with the aftershave-still smells like a manly Vermont Maple Syrup. The soap smells a lot better-not the same anyway. Now just watch some women compliment my scent and ask what it is. Before I tell em what it is, I'll say "Where were you when I had on Bill Neumann, Clubman, Bay rum, Stoylin etc?". Well, enough of that silliness. As I say, the soap has a better scent-more reminiscent of what Pages is supposed to be. Msybe the atershave just takes more getting used to. Fine shave overall, but this is the third straight shave where red stuff has happened along S. Porcupine(chin). The idea of leaving S, Porcupine alone(as a personal punishment)gained ground today, but no final decision has been made. 2 passes. Good everywhere e;se except the chin. Pretty Outstanding.
