My older sister laughed at me this morning, reminding me that I'm now eligible for senior discounts. I'd forgotten. It is what it is.

But later it occurred to me that, dammit, I don't FEEL my age (whatever I thought 55 is supposed to feel like).

The number doesn't bother me but I am a little spooked that I don't feel...older? Not physically but inside...meaning Me.

    Is this normal?

Hitting 50 came and went like nothing but this feels weird because, inside, I am not an old man and I will not order off the senior menu.

Am I just being stupid? What the hell is wrong with me?

Since I'm right behind you at 54, I recommend calling your sister a twerp and moving on. That's what I did when mine wanted to get me a granny chain for my reading glasses.

I figure keep the ten year old boy that you have inside happy and you'll never really be old. Though the windows grow dim and the timbers begin to groan.

I recommend a couple different sizes of strap wrenches for opening jars. You’ll find as you age that they’re putting lids on tighter than they used to.

We have no choice about growing old.
    Fortunately, growing up is optional!
    Happy Birthday.

Happy birthday. I still don't feel like I am a day older than 25 most days. Reality hits when I walk past a mirror.

Happy birthday @gorgo2 :eatdrink047: How you feel inside is up to you. You can still hold on to the ideals that with your life’s experiences, have helped to guide you to becoming the person you are today. 55 is a great place to be. As we age and gain wisdom, we learn to appreciate more dearly the things that are really important.

Btw, there’s much to look forward to. Enjoy 60 was excellent! I learned it was okay to say “No” without feeling any guilt. Now, 65 and Medicare are just three months away. Like Joseph said, take the discount. My first senior discount took me by surprise too. It was at Dunkin’ Donuts while on my way to work one morning. I never thought of asking for one. I obviously looked the part. The clerk offered me the senior discount automatically. I initially bristled inwardly, “What?! How dare he presume?!” Now I’m like, “Cool, thanks!”

btw, I agree completely. No senior menus or early bird specials!

    Maturing is unlikely.

Our minds are always about 25 years late in acknowledging our age.
At 50 we still think we're 25, at 75 we still think we're 50, etc.

    Now get off my lawn!!
