I just stopped to say hello to you. I was searching for info about R41 on the net (just bought it) and found your wonderful place full of helpful tips and great gents. You know, I'm something of an experienced wet shaver myself Started a year ago, acquired a lot of soaps & creams (a kilo here, a kilo there) already, a suitcase of blades, and five or ten razors. Now I bought Muhle R41 with Razorock HD handle, and tomorrow will be my first shave with it. Okay, see you around, and have amazing shaves. Salute
Welcome to TSD. Had you started with the R41, you might have stopped there. The 2011 version of the R41 has been my daily driver for north of 10 years. Cheers!
Oof, Madone. I've never shaved with 2011 version, but previously I shaved with Fatip Piccolo (love it!) on an everyday basis. Still, Piccolo's much more milder... What advice might you give me? I use shallow angles, in general. Does it work with R41 as well? Thanks and regards.
Welcome to TSD, have some great shaves! If you find R41 aggressive a razor I would suggest (Steep angle) or riding the bar with a short handle for less leverage and weight + more nimble. I have some aggressive razors that have a lot of blade exposure then the newer R41 and I find those razors work best with steep angle . Don't plunk the razor at the start of a stroke and you will be alright I'm thinking.
Thank you, gents! @Ron R , appreciate your words. I had my first shave with R41 a couple of days ago. It was the moment of "oh man, THAT IS bbs"... it was the cleanest shave I've remembered. I paired it with a fresh German Wilkinson blade + EJ preshave & soap. I used a very...very shallow angle (i.e., the most possible shallow angle the razor allows). Was it aggressive? Yes, quite a lot! Have I had any nicks/weepers/irritation? Absolutely no! I do like Muhle R41 a lot now. I even thought about stainless Dscosmetic Z0 but I'm going to hold off on it for now. One more time thank you and have great shaves too!
