    Good afternoon.

    Straight Razor Shave #503
    5/8 Dovo Special
    JR # 290 Cashmere Brush
    Cella SS
    Aqua Velva Ice Blue
    Stirling Alum Block
    Modessa Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 24.5

I decided to use my Dovo Special and the Cella soap because I know it's a great combo.
Although the scent is gone and the coloring has turned brown, it still is slick and lathers well. Btw, the soap does not have a funky smell. Lol! Here's my lather:

Did 3 passes for a nice, close comfortable and error-free shave. Finished this shave in my usual way. Take care.

Late to the "show" again. I'm doing "New" November. Here's a look at my collection. Front to back, Red & Black, Long Comb, Short Comb, and a New Improved.

What everyone else said, Chris. I would add two things:

    1. The early Schick E models had a spring that was not locked in place but just rested against the spring stop on the underside of the razor head. It therefore could be swivelled open. This allowed the user to open the razor head to clean it or to reposition or replace the blade. I have an early Schick E (an E2, I believe) and really like this feature. The later Es and the Gs had a notch on the end of the spring that locked around the spring stop to fix the spring permanently in place. IMHO this was not a design improvement.

    2. You also need to check that the blade is properly resting behind the blade stops on the Gem-type SE razors. I didn't once and one side of the blade had slipped past the blade stop on an Eveready 1912. Not only was the blade crooked, but one corner was projecting out a couple millimeters. I noticed this when my first stroke gouged a furrow down my cheek. Fortunately it healed without scarring or I would have looked like one of those old German university student duellers with the cheek slashes....

I have found I have better luck just not buying stuff without openly declaring a formal NB Year. That never seems to go well for me (see my sig line for the shameful details).

It's so hard when I browse through retailers. However, I have been pretty good about limiting my purchases. I am at the point where I really have everything I need. I have to replace some of the old men aftershaves like Old Spice, etc. but I don't plan on getting anything else. However, I need to stay away from Stirling because that Christmas Eve bundle is calling me. Lol! It's one of my favorite scents and I no longer have it. The good thing about it was that I was comfortable using it throughout the year.

Yep, I got careless I guess, no damage done!

Super looking lather Joe, sounds like a great product.

Thanks Joe, yeah that's what I found out, just re-insert the key, this opens the spring and allows some wiggle room to realign the blade. No finger nail for me, I used a cotton Q-tip, got to look after my finger tips!

Great looking line up there Herm, looking forward to seeing them in action.

Thanks John, good info, I don't fancy any facial scars. Pretty sure mine is a Schick E type, but don't see a way to open this without using the key or other implement. When I received it 2nd hand, I used some thin sliver of wood to open and clean it. Haven't had this problem with my Hydromagic so far, maybe I just haven't used it enough!

    Thanks John :happy088:

    Good morning all.
With a new scale and set of calibration weights, I'll report how it went.
The new scale has a non linear calibration error of .03 grams from 0 to 100 grams, so I deemed it close enough for this experiment.
I weighted each item individually then used the tare function to zero out the brush and measuring spoons for product weight.
I also rounded up to the next value that could be measured with common household items.
So for example, 1.15 ml rounds up to 1.25 ml or 1/4 teaspoon.
    The victim was Proraso Red.

    The results.
If I only did a 2 pass shave on the face.
I got good lather that I liked with 7 ml of distilled water and 1.25 grams of shaving soap.
This came out to almost 1.25 ml or 1/4 teaspoon of soap.

I do a 2 pass head and face shave (my daily routine) it requires 20 ml of distilled water and 3.75 ml of soap or 3/4 teaspoon.

    20231108_063257.jpg

Above is a picture of the end results.
The shaving lather needs a little more mixing but you can see what I used for common comparison.

Measuring the soap I have left in my container (almost full) and doing some quick math it should last for 29 more shaves.
Or almost 3 months of 2 pass shaves of the mug only.

    Why did I do this??
    That's a very good question....
    :signs002:

But regardless, the morning shave wii be a nice one.

The beard vs blade war continues...

    Enjoy

Excellent setup and method on measuring your soap Terry. Personally, I just use my finger or a coin to measure the amount of soap. Of course, I usually have more soap than I need and place the unused portion back in the container.

    Thanks!

Not that I shave with different tools and the lke than most.
    :think002:... well... um..uh.. yea.

I guess repeatability is the name of the game for me.
I can get wonderful mug and gourd mowing with the DEvette paired with a new Feather blade.
I can now get my favorite lather more often than not.
I know different brands and ages of soap will mix differently.
But I've got a good starting point.
    So I thought I'd share.

I haven't figured out just how to measure a hard soap puck, without scales every time, yuck.
So far it's measured water vs time mixed.
But maybe I'll think of something else..maybe.

Very good shave this morning, with mostly the same arsenal as yesterday(I brought out the Jayaruh 59 brush today). No problems about which to write(sorry Bill Shakespeare, I wanted to dupe your style). Speaking of Bills, I once again used a little more Bill Neumann A.S. than in previous times. Clean and clear everywhere, no cuts, Knicks, and Polka-dots. 2 passes. I did better down at Cactus Nation than I have in a while. As Outstanding As It Gets

Today is a no shave day. I have a busy day so I don't want to shave late in the evening.
