    Good afternoon.

    1959 Gillette Fatboy (6)
    Wilkerson Sword DE Blade (2,3)
    JR $290 Cashmere Brush
Seaforth Sea Spice Lime SS and AS
    Stirling Alum Block
    Modessa Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 22.5 hrs
    Dome Turf: 3 days

It's time for a face and headshave. Gillette Fatboy and Seaforth Sea Spice Lime got the call. The Sea Spice Lime isn't a tart citrus scent, but it still very nice. Here's my lather:

    20231121_150416.jpg

Did 3 passes on the face and dome for a BBS shave. I had some alum feedback on my neck and nape, but that was all. Finished with the witch hazel and the matching aftershave. I probably will do another safety razor shave just to break the pattern of 2 straights, 1 safety, 2 shavettes , 1 safety, etc. I think my Gillette Heritage Razor will get the call tomorrow. Take care.

    Looks great Joe!

Does the Seaforth aftershave have any staying power? I’ve been searching for a good lime scent that can hang around for a while….

Thanks Scott. It is lightly scented soap. I have chronic sinusitis so my sense of smell is hindered. It doesn't have staying power to me.

Great shave post and pic John.

Shaving with vintage razors is kind of special, must be even more so with one that belonged to your Dad. Very cool.

I like my aluminium Tech but do find it a bit light. Might try a different handle or search the web for a different/affordable option.

The more pics the better! I find i it's part of the enabling process, not so? And makes reading the posts more fun and interesting

    Interesting website the Kent one.

Fine shave pic and yr usual interesting setup
Truly, I have enough soaps but the fine vetiver interests me. Might have to cave in!

Nice post Scott. No fatboy in my den, two slims that I haven't used for a while. Can't think now but don't remember trying a Feather in one of those. Maybe that's my next step up the skills list. Be interesting to see how yr Feather experiment goes with different razors.
    Have a great day ahead.

    Thanks Chris!

For all practical purposes, I get the same shave from a fat boy and a slim adjustable. I do slightly prefer the extra weight, but there will be no great revelation for you if you own a few slims.

If you can make a good lather and are shaving without carving yourself up, you should absolutely start trying some of the sharper blades. Depending on your particular face, you may be pleasantly surprised.

I struggled with DE shaving as a beginner and eventually figured out that it was more because my beard was too tough for the mild blades that newbies get steered towards. Not necessarily due to my technique.

I just got an assortment of some of the sharper blades that I’m going to be experimenting with for my December focus. PM me your address and I will send you two of each to try out.

Thanks Scott. Good feedback that. Been wet shaving since last year Nov and feel my technique keeps me out of danger most days with good to great results. I have a good assortment of blades to keep me going for a few more years but will stock up on more soon, since I am enjoying the wet shaving too much. My Feathers work well in my Gillette Techs, time to try them in some other razors, so I will be keen onto follow your comments on your own trials.

Thx for the kind offer but no thanks. Cost of mail to Australia for a few blades would be nuts!;)

By the way, I have the Yellow feathers. Where do the black Feathers fit in?

My experience so far with the safer blades seems to echo your own. Not efficient enough, more strokes and more passes needed, generally good for one day only.

The fun continues. Have a great day/evening or night depending on yr time zone!

Missed the Western Australia in your signature lol.

The two packs have the same blades. I have heard that 5 packs are black and 10 packs are yellow, and that it’s a regional sales difference. Either way the blades are the same!

Thank you Chris... The Fine accoutrements fresh vetiver is a great shaving soap. I've had mine for a few years and unfortunately to my knowledge, I may be wrong, has been discontinued along with a few other fine soaps which have been replaced with newer offerings...

    Toggle and TOBS Tuesday.
I gave the newly replated D1 Toggle a go this morning. It shaved. Like a razor. But I didn’t hear angels singing or have a life changing shave.

    Prep: Shower
    Lather: TOBS
    Brush: RR Plissoft
    Razor: D1 Gillette Adjustable
    Blade: Personna (1)
Post: Alum and Captains Choice Bay Rum

My lather was slick enough, my 2 pass shave resulted in acceptable results. Only shaving my neck is not as much of a challenge, even with a couple of days growth. I will admit that the weight and length of the razor does feel good in my hand. Might use the Toggle for a noggin shave tomorrow.

But the shave got me ready for a lovely day spent with my girlfriend and then later for an evening out with my youngest son and my gal for an early birthday dinner.

No angels singing but nevertheless it's a beauty. I can see the attraction of it. I do like razors plated in gold.

    Congrats on the birthday.

Just looked it up, that Malbolge looks like a complicated combination of scents.

    Thanks, Chris!

The Techs are all quite light razors. Of course, the threading is bog standard so you can fit "aftermarket" handles, I imagine. (Just don't tell Gary you are "defacing" a Tech.)

I like the blog on the Kent website. The mix of shaving tips, beardcare tips, and articles on picking and using axes, knives and various campfire starting gadgets is ... uhm... different.

    Happy birthday, Troy!

    The replated Toggle looks magnificent!

I am disappointed though: with all the legendary hype about the Toggles, I always understood that each Toggle came with its own harp ensemble to accompany the shave. Devastated to hear that this isn't true! Maybe your ensemble got misdirected in the mailstream between the replating service and you and it will show up in your bathroom later?
