Ouch, well things happen when you least expect them too. Good on you for getting it under control

    Great looking shave Joe.

Yes the Proraso Gel Riparatore works well for me too. Only one hassle: I find if I don't use it enough it dries out and when called into duty refuses to come out of the tube.
Might want to ziplock this or something. Quite agree the styptic pencils are useless, messy and fragile!

Thanks Joe: I looked up the Tsuka on our local Sterling supplier here in Melbourne but... none available. I might contact them to let me know when this becomes available again. Sounds interesting

Thanks Joe, simple shave indeed, it was good enough, but not the best.

I agree, the Arko may not be the Best Choice for Travel, mainly from a lingering scent point of view and considering of others Lol! Seriously, I have never had a problem with Arko. Derby works just as well, far less offensive though

Nice shave set and pic @Hogie. Oh and by the way, thanks for the neat trick on marking off the shaves on the SE blade. Would never of come up with that one myself!

Time to delegate a permanent marker to the shave den!

Yikes! Wild turkey on the loose. How big are these turkeys then? We are pretty used to seeing dead and mangled kangaroos on the road down under, they can do some real damage, but turkeys?

Don't go overboard on the Turkey bars!

26 Nov 2023 (No Repeat November)

    4 - 5 day’s growth

    26 Nov 2023.jpg

Day 5 post HoLEP, day 3 post discharge, grateful for the good outcome and happy to have got through the whole shave without any undue interruption!

Prep = Tepid water Prep and shave, Tabac in a tube as Pre shave
Soap = Cella received the call up today. One full scoop pressed into the bottom of the bowl. More than I would normally need but I figured I wanted more than enough lather. Adding more RO water as needed to achieve a lovely thick shiny lather with tall peaks
Brush = Omega 10049. Great brush for harder soaps. Soaked in RO water, squeezed most of the water out. I like to start the lathering with a drier brush these days. Less bubbles that way
Bowl = Cheap deep white plastic bowl: aiming for more lather than usual
Razor = Gillette New replated (Back Roads Gold). I wanted an OC to get rid of this growth. Special razor for a special occasion
Blade = Gillette Platinum (2), didn’t want a fresh blade in the OC
Passes = My usual 3 + were needed. Also tackled the back of the next with the OC with no damage
Post = Tap water rinse, Alum was silent, tap water rinse, Thayers, Stirling Bay Rum. My only regret is that I did not use more ASL I really like this stuff
    Scent = none needed
    Damage = none

Score = 9.5 / 10 I am back on track. Super smooth all over, DFS + some BBS, all set for another sweltering day in Perth

Comment: This combo rapidly peeled off the stubble from my cheeks and sideburn areas. My 4 ½ days growth gave me an opportunity to revisit my beard map in real time. I can see that my bothersome Zone 8 is going to have to be dealt with using MDS (multidirectional shaving) or J-hooking if I want to get that area as smooth as the rest of my shave. This will be tricky with all the hollows around the Adam’s apple area but is the next step up in my skill set.

Lessons: 1) I am thinking that for WTG or ATG I can use more pressure than I am currently using even with an OC. Of course ATG will still need a very light touch. 2) Even the Cella tended to dry out a bit towards the end of the first pass: quick fix: add more water, apply more. 3) conventional advice is to leave the harder-to-shave areas till last to give the lather more time to “work”, but I am thinking that by the time I get there the lather can be a bit dry, causing things to drag a bit. So I may have to revisit my shaving pattern. Of course I have no problem with applying more lather as needed, redefining the definition of what constitutes a pass

Wishing you all a blessed Sunday and week ahead

Thanks Chris. I wished Rod would have made Tsuka in the normal 5.8 oz tub instead of the 3.0 puck. Usually, his 3.0 oz soaps are in limited supply and are not guaranteed every year. They usually are not his top sellers. For the life of me, I don't know why thus scent didn't catch on because it is a beautiful fougere/cologne fragrance.

Great shave and post Chris! I have never had Cella dry out during my shave because I über hydrate my soaps.

Thank you Joe. The Chinese cologne soap I've had for quite some time, which has X3 in its price bracket. It's a great performing soap.

Thanks Joe, I have "enough" soaps, but always keen to try different ones. At least one of my sons is showing some interest in wet shaving, so at the very least I can the some on down the line as it were. I will just have to be patient!

Thanks again Joe, yep, learning to keep adding more water. so far the slickest lathers I have enjoyed are the ones that almost slide off the face, I guess that is where I am heading

Using straights and shavettes made me produce wetter lathers and that carried over to all my safety razor shaves as well.

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: Thiers-Issard Super Gnome Extra
Brush: Sawdust Creation Studio “Inferno” Silver Fox Synthetic
    Lather: TTFFC Spring Fern
    Aftershave: Floïd Genuine Vigoroso
    Additional Care:
    Omega Alum
    Dickenson’s Original Witch Hazel
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm
    Halston Z - 14 Cologne

A very nice and comfortable shave with the TI this morning. Somehow, last Tuesday, I did not realize that it was my 1000th straight razor shave. As a result, I did not use my TI, which always receives the honors of any shave that is a multiple of 25. Therefore, it got the nod today.

    Here is my lather shot:

    Good afternoon.

    Straight Razor Shave #509
    10/8 Max Sprecher (84)
    Catie’s Bubbles Tuxedo Brush
    Stirling Spice SS and AS
    Stirling Alum Block
    Modessa Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 23.5 hrs

I haven't used Max in over a month so I was due to bring it out for this afternoon's session. I picked the Stirling Spice because I just like this scent. Here's my lather:

    20231126_160603.jpg

Three passes gave me an error-free close and comfortable shave. The alum feedback was negligible. Finished the shave with my usual routine of the witch hazel and aftershave applications. I am happy with this shave. I did video this session so hopefully I can get it on my channel for you guys to see if you are so inclined. Take care.
