    A Fatboy, a Slim, a black long-handle Gillette and a black short-handle Gillette - all set at 7.
A Merkur Futur set just a tad (smidge?) under 3.
All stay set where they are.

I have a whole bunch of fixed blade razors, and they all work great for me, regardless of the blade I use. I think adjustable razors were created as a product to make money, rather than something anybody actually needs.
Technique matters more than the razor or the blade IMHO. I can use about any blade and about any razor in my shave den and still get a decent shave with minor adjustment of my technique for that particular razor.
I like Wilkinson Sword blades from India as my do-it-all go-to blade. That's the blade I use in my R28 shavette, too! Nice balance between robust and sharp; I get about six shaves out of each blade.
Adjustables are fun toys, but I think they're just that. Fun toys. Everybody ought to have one or two to play with, but they're certainly not necessary by any means.

I believe adjustables solve the dilemma of what razor to buy.
You buy this one, it's too mild.
You buy that one, it's too aggressive.
You buy another, nope. Too mild again.
You buy the adjustable, you get what you want.
Also keeps you from the need of buying three razors if you're one who likes to start mild for the first pass, take up a bit more aggressive for the second, then really aggressive for that last pass (or all vise-versa).
While I have achieved some great shaves with milder razors (good technique can improve the outcome of a mediocre razor), they are fewer and farther apart than with the adjustable that I can set up to be more aggressive.

You got me. I guess I was trying to say I don't necessarily know what my settings are. And it varies from razor to razor. Could I look at where I left off last time, sure. But I switch off blades too, so that setting may not be right. Boy are you smart.

I don't think "refuse" is the right word in my case. I'm very limited in many aspects of the skill of shaving. Not ALL aspects, thank goodness. I wrote a post some time ago, in which I said "I do the best I can with what I have". Can we leave it at that, please?

Whether it’s my Fatboy, Progress, Slim, or Rockwell 6S I lower the exposure for most of the final pass.

For nearly 60 years I've used setting 5 on my Slim with a Wilkinson Sword blade but lately I''ve been using 7 on all my Gillette Adjustables with the same blade. The only Non-adjustable razor that shaves like a Gillette adjustable at 5-7 is my Weber PH, all my other razors seem too mild.

I shave both face and head. I like a milder setting on the face, and various settings on the dome. I mostly prefer a more aggressive setting on the fringe area, but a much milder setting on my bone-headed top where there ain't much growing anyway.
