Thanks Scott. At times, I wish that I could shave twice a day. I never thought that I would ever make that statement.

Me too Joe. Cartridge shaving was a painful, irritating experience for years. Absolutely hated it, and my face would be raw all winter.

Now I’m trying to push towards doing it more than every other day, just due to enjoying the experience.

    Stunning line up there Barry.

Quick question about the blade: how does the Saloon pack differ from the other Gillette Wilkinson Sword blades? I see the saloon packs offered at local on line stores and wondered about that.

Thank you Chris... The answer to the saloon pack query is the saloon pack have 10 blades in the tuck, and are marketed for barbers in India,as the 5 tuck GWS are for the general public to buy, but the blades are exactly the same, just in a smaller quantity and different packaging, as are the vast majority of the subcontinent DE blades purely for selling purposes.

Nice setup and shave Barry. As you know, Boots is a mainstay in the UK. Unfortunately, we don't have the opportunity to purchase it in the US. However, I could be wrong.

Thank you Joe...we still have Boots for the time being, but a lot of the their own shaving assortments have now been discontinued in the UK...However, I have a few spares to keep me going for while fortunately. Not sure if you can purchase in the US. Enjoy your Sunday.

I have used this razor for the last 2 shaves. It gives me the closest of shaves. GEM Featherweight. I do a 3-pass shave with every shave now (I ain't in no hurry!) and have a very pleasant experience. I have not been cutting myself so, I guess my technique has improved after a little over a year. These single edge blades give me up to 14 shaves. This last shave was the 9th.

Pre-heated the bowl & brush while I washed my face with HOT washcloth.
    Soap - Amber
    Brush - "Classic Shaving" synthetic
Whipped in bowl I had made for me.
Razor - GEM "Featherweight" with GEM Persona SE blade (8)
Thayers Facial toner "Lavender" after the shave
Captain's Choice "Land Ho" after-shave balm
    Pinaud "Clubman" after-shave smelly stuff

    Very pleasant 3-pass shave!

Great shave and setup Hogie! GEM blades are sharp so to get an error-free shave with a GEM razor is a tribute to your much improved technique.

Yesterday and today, you shaved with my 2 newest soap additions from Pasteur's Octobershave meetup, Gary. So, I personally know that you enjoyed both shaves.

Yes. It is one of my favs now. When I first got it, I cut myself up pretty badly with it. I didn't like that first shave with it. So, I have vastly improved!
The single edge razors seem to do the job well.

Did a 2 pass shave with subpar results for me. I nicked my neck on the first pass and decided to forgo my usual 3 pass shave. This razor was getting tuggy, but that's not why I got cut. Apparently, the toe shows that it has a bright spot from my flashlight and that tells me that it needs to be honed. As a matter of fact, light was being reflected off the edge on various areas so I will need to hone it. That's a couple of razors that I have to hone. Anyway, here's my lather:

The alum was surprisingly silent even on the cut so I would say it was very superficial. Finished with my usual postshave routine. Take care.

Lather: Blackship Grooming Company Davy Jones
    Aftershave: Libertalia
    Additional Care:

Inaugural shave with the JR Torrey The Artist straight razor. This razor is my first total completion of a razor/scale restoration. I picked up this blade in a lot of 9 naked razors of of eBay. I used wet Emory cloths to restored the face of the blade which was dull and with a few minor rust spots. The scales are made of kirinite. While it is not perfect, a few scratch marks on the scales and the pivot point could be a bit tighter. I probably should have made the rod for the pin about 1/16 inch shorter.

As for the shave, the razor deliver a close and comfortable shave without any incidents. I have to determine whether this razor will reside in the Norhern or Southern Den. The advantage of the Northern den is that my honing supplies are available to me.

Hope you all have had a great weekend.
