I notice no one had started a December Haul ....... Well it's not shave related, but it is a haul. I probably paid more than most would have, but I started with wanting the 1951 Coleman 500 stove.
Funny thing is the hammer handle is from a local department store that went out of business 40 years ago.
Hanukkah gifts I got from my mother. She gave me Stirling Soap Co Pharaoh’s Dreamsicle soap and aftershave as well as a brush from Il Marchese as well as cash and an Uber gift card.
Just got my Rex Supply Co Sentry Slant razor with the rhodium plating today. It is absolutely stunning in person.
I need some info about these blades please. There are quite a few Valet auto strop sets in the vintage shops down here, no one seems to buy them, they are there week after week. I guess 'cause no one including me knows how to use them and couldn't be bothered stropping. I found these Valet blades y'day. Don't want to open the sealed package unless I know what I am dealing with. Can they fit into a normal DE razor? Are they thicker than normal DE blades? Or are they only for use in Valet Autostrop razors, in which case it might be fun trying buy a set if cheap enough.
Thanks Keith, and hi! Still have to look up the stropping part, I guess like the Rolls Razor you would want the whole set with the ability to resharpen the blades. I reckon these must be carbon? ( @PLANofMAN had a thread about resharpening carbon steel DE blades with a gizmo, can't remember the name.)
They are delightful display pieces. I would stick with the modern Feather blades like those used in the "One Blade" razor. They were originally produced for the Feather "Kamikaze" razor, a flagrant Valet knockoff razor. If you really want to resharpen valet blades, (and any vintage carbon will need resharpening, unless it was stored in really good conditions), you will need to hunt down the Allegro stropper that works with them.
I may have a stopper that needs conditioning. I didn't know what to use to soften it, so it's as stiff as a board.
Mail call, Just arrived yesterday my 2nd Yaqi Chippendale handle for my Yaqi Mellon 316 SSP head, good match for that time era in replica's. Another Cyber Monday sale buy! Have some great shaves!
beautiful. Not familiar with the 2XL had to look it up. It looks large but maybe I was thrown by the "XL" label! From the website, is this correct? Colonel X2L approximate brush specifications: Overall brush height - 98mm Handle height - 53mm Knot loft - 45mm Knot diameter - 21mm Weight - 63g Really nice shape handle, I guess you will loving that
Well for myself, my hauls have been sparse since July so I did some catching up Stocking up on some blades I know work for me. Three different suppliers. They threw in a few random ones too that I can try. More Stirling samples. This is a great way to trial new soaps. The rest are all affordable and run of the mill. Hoo boy, this is no longer a hobby, mind you, call it what you like, but those new scents are lovely even through the wrappers. Just a few more blades then I am set for life Just one or two more to come that seem to be caught in the slow Xmas postal system down here
