    I didn't realize it, but yesterday was my 5th yr anniversary of joining this forum. It's amazing how much knowledge that I have amassed and the vast improvement on using any razor ever since I started wetshaving Sept 2018. I thank the former 30 DC members for assisting me with my journey. I remember being anxious about traditional straight razor shaving because of maintenance and expense. I didn't think that I would be good at honing my razors, etc. Transitioning from just having the mindset that I need to have the most aggressive razor and setting to get a good shave to using milder razors and settings. It's been an amazing shaving journey. I also want to thank the newcomers to this thread because you instill enthusiasm and by doing so, make this thread a fun read.

    23 Dec 2023 27 hours late start to the day

    23 Dec 2023.jpg

    Prep = Cold Water soak 30s x 3
    Preshave = none
    Soap = Black Cherry from Stirling is fast disappearing. Bloomed in normal tap water. Bloom water to the face while lathering
    Brush = Semogue Owners Club Cherry
    Bowl = Timeless
    Razor = Gillette Popular OC
    Blade = Shark Super Chrome (1)
    Passes = 3 + were needed
    Post = Usual CWR, Alum provided some warning feedback all over, CWR, Thayers allowed to dry
    ASL = Pinaud Virgin Island Bay Rum. Hmm, nice. Sweeter and less cloves than the Stirling Bay Rum, can easily apply more next time
    Damage = Felt a bit rough, but no blood was drawn

    Score = Still a 9 / 10 but felt different to the easy shaves during the last week

    Comments = Decided to leave out the Pre-shave. I had tried this in the past and decided I needed it but thought I would try the bloom water as a pre-shave today. Less beard prep time. The Shark and the Popular OC felt a bit rougher than the Flare tip but still provided a super shave

    The Semogue OC tends to hold on to the lather a bit more than for example the Omega 49. I remember this from previous shaves. It feels quite tight and unyielding. The soap tends to retreat up to the knot and is harder to rinse out at clean up time, maybe it just needs to be worn in more. I will start really roughing it up on the towel at dry down time and stop being too precious with it. It needs to behave or it will be relegated to display cabinet duties

    FWIW Zone 8 has finally raised the white flag and surrendered. Pretty much BBS there both ways. It is now officially annexed; I can expect some rebellion from it in the future but will know how to subdue any resistance from that quarter. On to the next battle zone

    Have a Super Saturday and Super Shaves to everyone….

    Excellent shave Chris! In my early journey, I found lather hogging brushes frustrating until I had an epiphany. I loaded more soap than usual and just painted the lather instead of initially splaying the brush on my face. Once the lather was applied, then I would add more lather by lightly splaying the brush on the face before shaving. Repeat the same steps for subsequent passes. I found that vigorously splaying the brush drives the lather into the brush and makes it difficult for the lather to be released.

    The Barbasol came out like a squiggly snake, even after I doused it under warm tap water. I thought the tap would help it come out like regular cream. Rise and Gillette do that, even without tap assistance. Someone here explained that the older the cream is, the more it will come out squiggly. I got a nice shave from it though. One cut, no Knicks, Polka-Dots. I'm glad I had the skin-food strrength of Stephan Bay Rum A.S. to calm it down(the cut). The cut was the only glitch of an otherwise great shave. One pass. Most Outstanding.
