The razor head of VDHs three-piece razors look like Giesen&Forsthoff (Timor) to me (link to catalog in english).
Head is still "just" zamak, not stainless steel.

This is why I’m happy I started this journey ten years ago. I can look back now and see what companies and products have stood the test of time over this latest boom in interest. This site has also stood that test and is the same friendly, sane place it always was.

I never liked the B&B forum. Probably because I don’t care enough what anyone thinks about me or my product choices….

That was the first forum I found.
A different kind of crowd. Not a bad crowd, just not my crowd. Different strokes, I guess. TSD fits better with my personality.

Neutral on that one. A good place to read/look at reviews etc, but nothing there motivates me to join. This place just has the right mix of people and the right vibe for me.

I’m in corporate sales, have two teenage kids and I’m very involved with them and my community. At the end of the day I’m not someone who is lacking for human contact, so I tend to be a bit more reluctant to engage online sometimes…

Shave My Face got into a lot of online wars starting shortly after they were founded. The end result was that people soon bypassed it in favor of other forums, and the place never really took off. The place has been a ghost town for well over a decade. Even so, it still played a role in getting the traditional shaving ball rolling.

I'm on week 8 of a winter beard. Ridiculous when you know I'm in Florida.

Most people don't have the disposable income they once had A year or two ago.
I, seeing that things were getting expensive, hard to find, or disappearing completely, years ago, bought way ahead.
So I'm set till I retire or die, what ever comes first.

So I don't see me getting any big purchases anymore.

Not sure why you quoted me in this Paul, although I will say that B&B seems to have mellowed and become more inclusive since I was last there 10 years ago. Probably a good thing as they are the Elephant in the room when it comes to shaving forums…

It's funny, I read things written 5, 10, 15, 30, 60 years ago, etc. Or see movies or TV shows from 5 , 10... years ago, etc.

It's always been tough times, hard to get jobs, rising prices, hard to make ends meet, etc.
"With the state of the world today...etc. etc. etc."

It's only in retrospect when people say "things were great", "I wish it were like that now", "they don't make'em like they used to", etc. etc. etc.

Things are never good now.

Until they get worse, and then, 5 years ago it was a great time to live!

Today's Now is demonstrably worse than any Now in decades.

Yea, nothing like the glory days of the Great Depression, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, constant fear of nuclear war, gasoline shortages in the 70s where you had to wait on line 2 hrs just for a few gallons, recessions in the 90s, 9/11 and the fear of the next attack in the years that followed, etc.

The plagues that existed before modern medicine...makes Covid look like child's play.

We have it no worse than prior generations. I'd say we have it better, actually.

Not enough spare change to buy another razor -- life stinks!

The economy was a major reason many people turned to traditional shaving in the first place. First in the early 2000s, and especially during the Great Recession. I remember people on the Gillette Facebook page bemoaning the high price of cartridges and asking for discount codes. There were also many new wetshavers on the forums who stated they switched from cartridge razors to save money. Traditional shaving is dirt cheap compared to cartridge shaving, or at least it can be if one so chooses. We still have a wealth of products available at a variety of price points, available from many different outlets.

I was curious and checked the same vendor. Looks like he has significantly more options today than a couple of years ago.
