If I had some old, tired, dull, and useless blades, I would make replacements available for those who need them for personal use
Besides the "Cool Factor", learning to use a Straight Razor was more of a self imposed challenge. If my ancestors could use them, and others now can use and master them, then so can I. Once learned, I found that a properly stropped Straight Razor can deliver a better shave than anything else. I know, because I've tried about everything out there, except some of the newest DE razors. That said, these modern DE razors aren't shaving any different than the vintage DE razors are. Same dimensions, same modern blades. I do use DE razors, for convenience factors, and I like to try different blades.
yes they fit just fine.but the 3 hole blades don't fit the later 1930 up gillettes.the original 3 hole blades are alot thicker, and the shave tolerances show that as well when modern blades are used in them.
Does anyone have a picture of the razor that uses the 3 hole variant ? Was it a typical 3 piece razor or an adjustable. I’m not a collector and therefore lack the knowledge of which ones are desirable. I really appreciate all the feedback everyone has shared
The great thing about straight razors and shavettes is they shave beautifully regardless of the growth. No clippers needed ! Once the technique is mastered, it’s the only razor you will ever need.
True, but I only addressed the question @ShaversRUs posed in post #27. The razor that the 3-hole blade was used with could be used with modern DE blades. Going in the other direction, as you say, it wouldn't work. Even if the holes lined up, the thicker, older blade couldn't bend enough to use in a DE89, for example.
Thank you. Thank you. I was wondering if the blade sits flat or is flexed by the head/cap. I have heard the 3 hole variant sits better and prevents most blade movement or irregularities
