Sunday, December 31 I Coloniali~~Simpson 90th Anniversary Astor~~Barbasol FH/Feather~~Small Batch Shave Tonic For the final shave of 2023, I used some well-loved products. The Barbasol FH really was extraordinary with the once-used Feather blade. I found a tuck in my AS-D2 box and it's my last one. I would mos def® repurchase these blades. The Simpson harkens back to a better time from Simpson. IMO, they have fallen prey to the globalization of badger hair acquisition. The juice is a terrific juice; I only wish the longevity was better. Here's wishing all my comrades at arms, a wonderful, successful, healthy and happy 2024! See you next year.
Monday, January 1 I Coloniali~~Simpson Emperor 3~~1941 Gillette Ranger Tech/Feather~~Vintage Dior Homme Still working at finishing the I Coloniali. There are two chunks floating around the bowl. I am applying the soap directly to my face and then working up the lather. They'll be toast by the end of the week. Happy New Year.
January 1, 2024 Wolfman Guerrilla Bronze with 0.84mm Gillette 7 O’clock Black Zenith B2 Boar WSP Ol’Kentucky Small Batch Shave Tonic Happy New Year Everyone!. Lots of college football bowl games on tap for today. I have decided to concentrate on my Wolfman razors this month. I will still continue to use the Feather AS-D2 weekly but I will rotate through my Wolfman razors for the remainder of the shaves. Up for today is the Wolfman Guerrilla with the 0.84mm base plate. I found this setup more efficient than the 0.69mm baseplate while being just as smooth. I did not get a lot of blade feel out of either setup. For my purposes either looks to be a great setup as a daily driver. Again take care and Happy New Year.
I’ve enjoyed a bit of a break from a 3017 focus. I’ve used Fine LOrange Noir and SV Felce Aromatica this week. My two favourite scents in shaving, I believe. I will jump back in with a Fine titanic project this next weekend. I’ll do better posting pics the next few days, at the very least. Take care all.
Thank you Jason. The 0.69mm bottom plate is already starting to patina. I think I will see how patina continues.
Tuesday, January 2 I Coloniali~~Simspon 57 "The Douglas"~~1941 Gillette Ranger Tech/Feather~~Nasomatto Absinth Fourth and final shave with the Feather blade. Results almost aways follow the same pattern. The brush was a limited edition from a while back. Not sure of the date and who this "Douglas" is/was Anyone know Finished another chunk o' Coloniali... The finale was a lovely stank from the house of Crazy Nose. Absinth.
Sure thing, Joseph. Douglas was Homer's brother. Sadly, they had a disagreement and parted ways some years ago. That's why you don't hear much about him. Interestingly, both he and Homer were both heavy-bearded, and it was well-known that Homer enjoyed a good traditional shave. Looks like he's rockin' a Cobra Classic BTW. And of course we know that Homer's family had deep English roots and was highly regarded in the Old Country. So, it seems apparent to even the most casual observer that Douglas Simpson re-emigrated to the UK and became a Shaving Brush Magnate. Sadly, though, some claim he had a checkered past due to his fondness of Clubman aftershave. At any rate, you have a decent brush with a story but likely a very minimal resale value. I'm glad I could help.
