    Tabac shave soap.
    Timeless Razors shave bowl.
American Tobacco by Andy Hilfiger cologne.

I did a quick two pass shave this morning. The Shield is really performing well....no nicks or blood loss.

Thursday January 4 - Just Shaving with "J" Products January

Prep: Hot shower with Aleppo 20% laurel bay oil soap

    Soap: JM Fraser's Shave Cream

Brush: Simpson's Chubby 2 synthetic brush

    Lather Bowl: none

Post: rinse, alum, rinse, Lucky Tiger After Shave and Face Tonic

Last shave: December 31 (Sunday) - 4 days

    IMG_20240104_185344_burst_01_kindlephoto-243087266.jpg

This was much like my last shave of "DE and Defunct December", except I used a different brush and dialled the Rockwell T2 razor back from wide open "6" to middle-of-the-road "3" .

After showering, I did a couple chores before shaving. My face had dried off and I lathered up without wetting my face again. Good lather, but the first strokes of the razor were very rough and tuggy. I stopped, splashed water on my face over the lather, re-lathered and started shaving again. The rest of the shave was smooth and easy as usual -- the razor felt like it was just wiping off the lather instead of sawing through a whisker thicket.

Interesting. I never realized the pre-lather water made that much difference...

One pass to a reasonable DFS. No blood, no razorburn, no errors. Alum was silent. A quick splash of the Lucky Tiger finished it off.

Speaking of finishing things off, the Lucky Tiger bottle looks like it has one - or maybe at a stretch two - uses left in it. I will have to replace it. However, I am going to use Jeeves of Hudson Street products as well as JM Fraser's this month and I have four different bottles of Jeeves' splashes, so there will be no real rush on the Lucky Tiger order.

Hope everyone has had a good New Year so far!

Most excellent shave John. Yes, I find that if I either prewash my face with the Pears Soap followed by cold water splash my face is thoroughly prepared for whatever razor I choose for the day. Super results are usually the norm.

This is my off day quick report.

Switched to the Gillette Super Blue today, and will be focusing on testing this as a travel razor. Loaded it up with a Personna Lab Blue and in the spirit of travel testing, broke out the Arko stick.

This is the nicest cheap razor I have ever tried. I purchased three of them off of AliExpress for $12 total with shipping. It’s a copy of their 1970’s era Tech. The super maneuverable slim head gave me a 2 pass BBS/DFS shave as easily as any of my other mild razors.

CAVEAT- This razor is light as a feather. I have never really cared about razor weight because honestly, it’s never affected my ability to get a good shave. If that’s important to you, get a vintage fat handle tech.

I will be travel testing this one for four or five more days, but can already tell it’s going to be a winner. A great travel razor for 4 bucks rivals using cheap disposables.

As far as consecutive days, all still good, but the real test is coming. Windy and in the teens today and I will be out with the snowblower by Sunday.

    Consecutive days shaving- 6
Current skin issues or irritation- None so far

You are going to be making it tough for me to tone down on razor purchases. I already have three on deck this month and am trying to stop for a bit lol.

Nice shave John! I have done the same thing with drying my face accidentally and had to go back and start over. It does make a huge difference for me as well…

Terrific shave John. I always use cold water as my preshave before I apply my lather. U find that cold water minimizes irritation.

Thank you Joe, It was an eye opener, both for how spoiled for choice we are, and how much technique trumps gear choices....
