The brush was a handturned LE special that Jason
@jtspartan made for the 30DC several years ago -- I think it was the fall of 2017. They all had maple handles with natural-coloured grips and coffee-dyed bulbs and then mostly fitted with our choice of knots sourced from APShaveCo. Mine has a 24mm "cashmere" synthetic knot, which is sort of a cream colour. One of you jokers (I think it was Joe aka Trigger) looked at the brush's country of origin, shape and colour scheme and suggested I call it the Canada Goose. Which... makes a certain amount of sense actually. Henceforth, it will be referred to on the 30DC threads as the Canada Goose brush.
My last shave was last Monday. I work from home and don't go out much in winter, so I don't worry too much about my appearance. However, I am going for my annual eye check this morning, so I shaved to look less like a bum when I see the optometrist. (It's sooo awkward when you amble in the door for an appointment and the receptionist tells you that panhandlers aren't allowed....)
I remembered that I was going to experiment with adding an extra dribble of water to my brush midway through my face lathering. I painted on a first layer of lather, added water to the brush, then worked the lather in circles a bit more. I found that it definitely did make the lather slicker. That probably helped with the ease of the shave. I will incorporate this into my face lathering technique from now on.
As a side note, when I first started with the 30DC, I exclusively bowl lathered as I learned how to make a good lather. I only face lathered when using shaving sticks. In the last couple years though, I have switched over to face lathering everything almost exclusively. I may have to go back to bowl lathering again just to see how I like using that technique now.
Today, I did a one pass shave. One pass WTG on the face and ATG on the neck gave me a decent DFS. No errors, quiet alum. The Lucky Tiger provided a good finish. And is almost finished itself -- maybe two good uses left in the bottle.
Hope everyone has a good week!
