I have to start with a bit of ranting, but ultimately a happy ending.

As I have mentioned, my hobbies include quilting. Toward that end, I have joined my local quilt guild & a couple of discussion boards. One of the boards is based in the US; the other in the UK.

I had recently posted a pic of a block ( a segment of a quilt) of which I was proud. I liked the colors & construction. On the US board, I got several posts that I thought were rude & condescending, basically telling me that there was only one way to do this design & I got it wrong. I told them where to go & quit that board.

On the UK board, they have a “Rant Thread” where I vented my ire. I got nothing but support, telling me that they liked my work, that the folks on the other board were out of line and that it was my quilt & I should make it my way. (They love to remind me that the Quilt Police have been locked in a shed, so no one gets to tell me how to design my work.)

Sounds a lot like this board’s philosophy about shaving.

The US board that you mentioned sounds like a certain shaving board that many of us have either quit or been kicked out of. The UK board sounds like this board. And we all know that everything sounds more scientific and authoritative with a British accent so I think we're in good shape here. :D

OK here it is. The one on the left (called an hourglass block) is the one that caused all the fuss.

I am no expert or purist, but it looks very well balanced and beautiful to me! It looks great @Sara-s . I love it!

@ewk thank you. It's the so-called "purists" who gave me all the grief. And no one needs to be an expert (I'm certainly not) to know what they like.

BTW, do you have any pics of your mom's quilts?

You should have stuck around, and corrected their poor manners.

I stuck around long enough to tell them to stuff it. Here is my final post;.
The truly sad part is that they probably are completely baffled by my anger when "they were just trying to help".

The only thing I see wrong with your quilt block is there’s no shaving gear posed with it.
    Otherwise it looks just fine.

My mom dug out quilts I'd forgotten she made back in the early 80s. The patterns were cut from ugly, old (at the time) polyester clothes, which means the upper surface is not at all comfortable but should never wear out. My daughters have most of them now. I have one, the scratchiest and homliest.

Isn't passing them down how it's supposed to go? :)

Well, sure :) The only true "quilt" is our wedding ring quilt that is sadly showing its age after almost 30 years.

I love this Christmas tree skirt that was made with baby clothes from each of our 4 children.

This is a piece she made about 3 years ago that represents each of the states in which our family has lived. The words Faith, Hope, Love, and Family are embroidered on the four edges. (Hard to photograph as it hangs at the top of the stairway)

Those are all wonderful! I love memory quilts, though I’ve yet to make one.

Just for fun, I checked back to see what gossip about me had ensued. That was when I found out that I am permanently banned there. I bet it’s a first. I feel like I should have some champagne now.

You know, you could always "Visit" that other board you were banned from by using one of the many available free vpn's and "peek" at what has been said about you..... Just saying......

It all seems like a bunch of fabric-ated drama. On the positive side, however, they can't needle you anymore.

You measure up to our standards, Sara, so there's never a need to patch things up here. We have you covered.
