    Great shave and rescue Joe, I will stick with my DE razors. By the way, just thinking about it, do straights work well on oh let's say 3 or 4 or 7 days growth? or would you trim that first?

    Thanks Gary

    Great pic Gary and nice 2 passer, I like the look of that brush handle. Just thinking, if there is no label on your bottles how do you keep track of what's in there

    Flexible, Favourite, Feather, Fatip, Face lathering, Fine, Felce, whatever grabs my Fancy

    Days growth = 1

    Prep = back to my 3 times 30 sec cold water soak
    Preshave = The Body Shop Maca root and Aloe massaged in
    Cream = The Body Shop Maca Root and Aloe
    Brush = Omega EVO
    Bowl = still Face Lathering, adding water to the right consistency
    Razor = Gillette 1958 "TV" Special
    Blade = Kai (1)
    Passes = 3+
    Post = CWR, Alum, Thayers
    ASL = Old Spice
    Scent = Bulgari Wood Essence

    Damage = none but feeling rather tender and exfoliated. The Kai (1) felt more threatening in the Gillette than the Feather (2) did. Not easy going ATG in my troublesome areas. Felt a bit like shaving with an OC, so more care was needed and the shave took a bit longer. Maybe I need to rest the face a bit, but then I might get accused of being a scruff…..

    This makes zero sense. Either you can make a good lather or you can't. Am I to understand that when there isn't much soap left, you get knicks and cuts? I am confused.

    Tuesday February 27 - Favourites February

    Prep: Hot shower with Aleppo olive oil soap with 20% bay laurel oil

    Razor: Supply matte black stainless 2.0 injector with SE comb plate / vintage US-made Schick Plus Platinum (10)

    Soap: Red Green Special frankensoap

    Brush: Simpson's Chubby 2 synthetic

    Lather Bowl: none

    Post: rinse, alum, rinse, Lucky Tiger After Shave and Face Tonic

    Last shave: Friday February 23 -- 4 days

    My "Red Green Special" frankensoap is named after Canadian comic handyman Red Green (who fixes everything with duct tape) and also references some of its main ingredients. It is a mixture of five classic Italian soft almond-scented soaps: Cella "Red Tub", Vitos Extra Super Coco "Green Label", Vitos Super Crema "Red Label", Valobra, and a small sample of 3P - all smooshed together in a large plastic Vaseline tub. (I think the red tub Cella is the only one still available on the market.) It was originally a soft croap but is now a fairly hard soap - about a pound of it. Probably enough soap all by itself to last a year of daily shaves.

    Even though the Red Green Special is now much harder than any of its components were when new, it still loads quickly on a damp brush and face lathers easily and well. The original almond scent is still quite noticeable in the tub but not so much when lathered on the face.

    I did one easy pass with my favourite injector razor to arrive at a decently cleanshaven appearance. The vintage American-made Schick blade was still going strong on its tenth outing. Alum was silent.

    The luck of my Lucky Tiger Face Tonic finally ran out today and it joined the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. (Well, actually, the metal cap and plastic bottle both just went into my recycling bin, but where's the poetry and pathos in that?)

    We had a major snowstorm here yesterday. About four inches of snow that drifted to over a foot deep in places on my back walk and all packed with a fairly hard crust by the strong gusting wind. I nearly shovelled my way to a heart attack yesterday afternoon and barely got my front walk cleared. Today, I plan to see if I can get my old electric snowblower working, and then use that on my back walk and driveway....

    I guess my overall point is that when there isn't much soap left, I face the challenge of easing up on getting too much water on the brush. I need to make that perfect balane of soap and water(course we ALL do). A member said a long tie ago that he tries to do just that with all shaves. Knicks and cuts happen anytime, but for me it seems to happen more near the end of the puck. Maybe I'm rambling here(like Stoylins "Ramblin Man", but it's moreof s challenge for me to prevent Knicks and cuts as I get down to near the end.

    Much better shave today. While a gentleman here suggested I use the adjective "mediocre" to describe crummy shaves,(and a good suggestion st that), I am much more of the "Outstanding" persuasion. I put a good dose of the Proraso foam onto my face and neck. I'm learning to not get upset when it comes out squiggly at first ecause with patience it begins to look more like a cloud, which is what we want with lovely goo.( do, anyway). Very nice all over. No further damage from the mess that was yesterday's shave(south of North Porcupine, anyway). No doubt the skin-food of Proraso did its job. One pass. Strong finish from the Pro aftershave. As Outstanding As It Gets.

    I sense something strange going on at Bill Neumann. I was at my library the other day and looked up BN for fun to learn that they raised their "free shipping" price to $100. I groaned. Then I come back home, look up the website again and it's back to $60. What is this about, Bill?

    Thanks Chris. I downloaded this video to illustrate that a shavette can take down a full beard without trimming it first. A traditional straight razor can do the same thing, but it needs to be sharp. Enjoy.

    Fine shave Chris. I have never shaved with a Kai blade. Some blades like the Feather can be rough on the first use. It also depends on the razor. I suggest that you might try using those types of blades with a mild razor and then take it to a more aggressive razor on the second shave and see if that solves it.

    Excellent shave and post John. I guess there aren't any neighborhood kids who would shovel for money while you relax with a cup of coffee.

    Good morning.

    Shavette Shave # 531
    Parker SRB
    Suneko 1/2 DE Blade (fresh)
    MrEE LE #10 Cashmere Brush
    Barbus Shave Cream
    Stirling Alum Block
    Modessa Witch Hazel
    Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS
    Beard Growth: 26 hrs

    I decided to go with my Parker SRB and load it with a Suneko blade. I have heard good things about it from Jeff Greene who was a member on this thread. He had piffed a G E Sharkesharp SE razor years ago, but I never bought them. Yesterday, Joe C. piffed me a tuck of 10 Suneko blades.
    I applied the cream on a damp brush and went to town on my wet face. I kept adding water to the brush as I face lathered and continued to add water a few more times to get a rich did, creamy and thick lather. I think that I could have use a little less cream on the brush, but I didn't mind. It was the first time that I lathered from the brush. I usually place dots of cream on different parts of my face and then face lather. I did a 3 pass shave and I got a real close BBS shave. I did reopen my weep.feom yesterday's shave and I did felt the sharpness of this blade at the apex of my chin. It resulted in a weep that was slightly larger than the size of a period at the end of this sentence.
    The alum feedback was such that my skin felt like it was burning. Really, it wasn't that bad, but it was a significant. Lol! Witch hazel and a double splash of the Aqua Velva Ice Blue finished this session. Take care.
