@gorgo2 I am so glad you like it. If you want to, I'd love it if you post a pic of it with tobacco in it.
That's at least a week's worth for me. The label is so I can remember which blend I carry. I'd bet there's a lot of guys who would buy one from you, especially if you construct it with a gusset (just a triangular piece sewn into each end to let the pouch expand a bit more at the top) because almost anybody will smoke more often than me, so they'll want to carry more. But I am happy this one!
@Sara-s , I thought of you while reading in an animal care magazine about a lady who spends a lot of her time making dog beds from quilts. She's connected to the San Antionio Quilt Guild(there's that QG again). She tries to do 30-40 beds each month. Volunteers help out, but she does most of the work. Really nice of her to do that.
I tried the triangular gusset. It didn’t work well for me, so I used rectangles, with rounded corners. That yielded a better result.
Thanks. It came out better than I expected for a first attempt. Now I just need to figure out what to use it for. It's too nice not to use.
The pouch is doing great and has begun taking on the smell of tobacco (yay) but smaller fragments are sticking to the inside. The shared restroom at work has a stack of those thin waxed craft paper bags for the female sanitary disposal box. They look to be just the right size to fit inside of your pouch as a liner. They won't miss one. Repurposing can be fun!
I’m glad you are enjoying it. Next trip to Tandy, I will buy some thin, pliable leather for linings. But your idea for an improvised lining is great.
I've read the chrome tanned is probably not the best choice for tobacco as it's unclear if the tanning chemicals could migrate over time. The raw stuff you used is fine.
I am stepping down as recording secretary of the Quilters Guild, after 4 years. (2 terms, as set by our by-laws.). Next month we will be installing our new officers, so I made them each a leather wristband with their title & some sewing-related stamps. Pics when they are done.
