I have just purchased this heavy handle ball end Tech, half asleep when I pulled the trigger. Do you think it a franken set or genuine
Almost certainly a Frankenstein. The case is a 1940's war era case. It would have been released with a Tech with a thin (bar type) handle. In later years, it would have come with a bakelite tech razor. The head appears to be accurate for the set. You only lack the thin bar handle to make it a complete and accurate set for the period.
if it's aluminum i believe it's a proper #25 set from around 1950.cap markings will differe also between years.unfortunately mr.razor doesn't list every brit model..1949/50 was a transition year for the brit techs and french market models also.it could still be a frankenrazor, but i have seen many late #25 sets like this, especially in shaving/grooming kits of the era.
When Mr. Razor says New 25 with unusual base plate, does that mean that this model has an unusual base plate, or does that mean that most 25's don't have a base plate like the one he shows? https://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/The NEW/1930s NEW No25 from Michael Turner.JPG
i actually have one of those..,most #25's don't have that baseplate.#25 is basically the case/set number.it had many different New open comb and Tech closed comb razors in it,depending on year/era.
Thanks. I have that unusual base plate. That razor, plus the Goodwill, plus the New Long Comb, completely explain why the hole in a double edge razor blade needs to be the shape that it is.
I think I have enough bits to get a genuine set together, next time I will ask on here first before purchasing.
i just saw another identical #25 set on ebay uk.ball end,triangular baseplate,no etching on cap,most likely a 1949/50 set. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12635030...k+6Mz2CsBkh/K4r6dpCd+wzaRl|tkp:Bk9SR-iTqrnFYw
i like english flat bottom and somewhat prefer them, but i am biased in that way.they have a similar blade clamping profile to the triangular techs, but have more of a curve so a little better clamping in my opinion.they have better plating and fit/finish also.
