Working, and lurking around. Nothing exiting about longevity testing of DE blades. But, it's interesting to see what works, outside the usual blades.

So far, this blade has been a real performer. I've had 40 shave on this one blade, to date. It is still going strong. 2 pass shaves, with ARKO, and a Gillette Fatboy.

Just checking in, on this Iguetta torture test. So far, I have had 55 shaves off of this one blade. I did have to take it out of the razor a couple of times, to clean the razor, but I did leave the blade alone. At shave 53, the edge started to decline, just a little. On #55 it wasn't tugging, but the shave did require three passes to get a DFS. Still using the same brush and same soap. I still only rinse the blade/razor with very hot tap water. No wiping of the edge. I have a feeling this blade has only a few more shaves left.

Surprisingly, this RZR "Iguetta" has surpassed the Suneko. It's been many years since I tested a Personna 74. I cannot remember exactly how many shaves I got. If I ran into some more 74's I would give it a go.

very cool, smoother than the suneko? i may invest either way.the one 74 i had gave me some razor burn after 20 or so,but that was easily on me prep wise.it was also a nice blade smoothness wise but i like the Spoilers better, even though they don't last as long.german modern wilkinson blades are acceptable, but i haven't been awe'd by their vintage sword offerings, too many incon- sistencies.the tuck i have is questionable..

Suneko felt sharper, at first. After about 5 or so shaves, they were about the same. The Suneko seemed to gradually fade earlier.

The Chinese blades that are Platinum coated seem to be very good. Except the PearlMax. Only 12 shaves on that one.

    Shave#71

To be honest, I thought I was about finished with this blade, but todays shave changed my mind. On the last couple of shaves, it wasn't as efficient as it could have been. So, I took pictures, and gave it a farewell shave, so I thought. I did a very nice hot towel soak, and a good slick wet lather. The entire shave went very smoothly. So, the experiment goes on. 71 shaves and counting, on this little Chinese blade, that won't give up.
    Same setup:
    Gillette Fatboy E-1
    ARKO Soap.
@oscar11 Special, shave brush with Synthetic Knot.

The pic is from the underside, the top side rinses better, while in the razor.

    Final shave

After a long boring test, this blade is done for. I never expected it to go to 78 shaves. The last two shaves, I started to get irritation, and the skin remained sensitive. Throughout the shave, there was no tugging, except one time that I was in a hurry, and didn't prep well.
I am unsure which to test next. I think I will give the testing a rest for a little while.

This is how I feel, because I just can’t stop buying brushes.

    Exactly!

Tbh, I don’t know how you guys are doing this. I’m really impressed with your dog-like determination. My face gets all irritated by shave 3 or 4 no matter the blade I use. I’ve been trying this last week or two to squeeze a third shave from my blades, but they’re always uncomfortable, and i’m left with too much irritation on my lower neck area. I don’t get that when I use a blade sparingly. Definitely going back to switching out the blade after one or two shaves. My hat’s off to you :happy088:

Proper hydration of the stubble with a very warm towel
    Light pressure with the razor
    Only two passes
A good hydrating aftershave. Or, add some glycerin to what you regularly use.
Do not wipe the blade after using.

You guys slay me, between collecting razors, collecting soaps, collecting razor blades and counting the number of uses per blade, Where or When do you find time to sit back, relax and enjoy a decent Scotch or Bourbon? Maybe a glass of wine or even a cup of tea or coffee. Yo? :D:eatdrink047:
