Well, the badger brushes can feel very luxurious, especially if you soak them in hot water first to heat them up.

But the synthetics need less attention to their maintenance (and don't smell like a barnyard on occasion), dry quicker, load faster, don't hog lather as much, and are generally just a lot easier to use. And while the first and second generation synthetics - which were mostly nylon fibres - felt like crap, the latest ones feel very very close to a nice badger.

I will keep the nice badger brushes I have acquired over the last decade or so - through much trial and error with other ones that were far too floppy or shed too much. And I will use them on occasion, as well as my two Jayaruh custom wood brushes with the nice boar knots stolen from Omega 49 Pro brushes.

But if I were just starting out again right now, I would let the poor badgers live out their lives undisturbed in the wild. Instead I would get a handle I really liked, pair it with a 24mm latest generation high-quality synthetic knot, and call it a day. Maybe just re-buy my Simpson's Chubby 2 Synthetic and forget all the rest...

A very nice shave with the CV H straight. My first use with this Van Yulay sample. It has a very nice mild ace t that dissipates once the shave is completed therefore it can be paired with any splash of your choosing. The lather is nice but no in the category of a Stirling or a Lakewood Soap.

I did my usual three passes without any incidents. The alum report was minimal and the Flöid aftershave finished off this shave nicely.
