    Back to a face lather focus...

    23 Apr 2024 .jpg

    Days growth = 1

    Prep = 3 x HOT WATER soak, getting a bit cooler down here
    Preshave = TOBS Jermyn Street
    Soap = Tabac shave stick, pre-soaked in warm water to soften this
    Brush = The Vulfix Old original Pure Badger
    Bowl = Face Lathering
    Razor = Gillette Popular 1939 No 46
    Blade = Bolzano (1)
    Passes = 2 +
    Post = Usual CWR, Alum, CWR, Thayers
    Aftercare = Tabac Balm followed by ASL

    Damage = none

    Better face lather today because I applied less to the face, I may have overdone this in previous shaves. The smaller brush worked fine, making it easier to apply and distribute the lather. Decided on an OC based on my previous experience with the 37C. The Popular is one of my favourite razors ($6 op shop find) and gave a super smooth shave. Glad the Tabac shave stick worked out better today since I have 3 sticks in total, happy to be dialling this in at last!

    Hope you all have a great Tuesday, safe shaving everyone

    Great Shave set up Chris. I like the Bolzano blades, very smooth and efficient with excellent longevity. Glad to read your finally getting to grips with the humble shave stick. I find my small stubby brushes work well with shave sticks.

    Thank you Joe. The vast majority of my shave set ups are inexpensive, which work for me wonderfully.

    Good morning.

    Schick I-1 Injector
    Ted Pella Injector Blade (8)
    MrEE LE #10 Cashmere Brush
    Seaforth Sea Spice Lime SS and AS
    Stirling Alum Block
    Beard Growth: 24 hrs
    Personal Care Witch Hazel

    Three passes gave me a near BBS shave without any drama. The blade has lost its sharpness so I will replace the blade after this session. Seaforth Sea Spice Lime is just a wonderful soap with an awesome scent. Here's my lather:

    There wasn't any alum feedback. Ended this shave with my normal postshave routine. Take care.

    Right on point Primo. As you are aware, many members of this group have offered sound advice to improve Paul’s shaves, including yourself on numerous occasions. Sound advice continues to either be totally ignored, misunderstood or possibly attempted erroneously.

    We have even offered guidance on posting pictures of his shaves so all here can further appreciate his shaves. Again he has ignored our advice claiming he cannot post pictures yet he has had a post or two with pictures unrelated to shaving. That speaks volumes to his continued unwillingness to accept our assistance.

    All we get are postings with gibberish terminology and repeated blood letting. Ahh Long Luuuuuuung breath.

    I wish for Paul to have many successful shaves without any incidents. I pray those days will come in the future. At least one can only hope

    Terrific shave and post Chris. Everyone has their own standard of what is an acceptable lather. Some prefer Santa Claus beards and others like lathers that are less voluminous, but super slick. Personally, hydrated lathers do it for me.

    So I've had this single edge Gem for awhile but I've been a little skittish about using it. I guess I wanted to get better with wet shaving in general before I dove into the deep end of the pool!

    But all-in-all, it gave a really good shave. The Gem blade is very sharp and you get a lot of blade feel and the angle is very different too. It's also louder than my DE razors when cutting whiskers down. But once I figured it out, I got a really nice shave with it! The only real drawback is getting under the nose due to the blade angle. You have to go east to west, but it's definitely not a deal breaker.

    The razor is a garden variety Gem 1912 and she is a beauty. It must have been replated at sometime in its life because she's very shiny and flawless. $21, not bad!

    The rest of my routine was pretty much the same

    Hot shower
    Pre shave soap Razor Emporium
    Preraso shave soap
    Fendrihan boar brush
    Alum block

    I had just a little bit of neck irritation, and some sting from the alum block, so I used some L'Occitane after shave cream today. It's a very silky, light cream and heals things up quickly. A little Lustray went on later, which I just received. Pretty nice fragrance!

    I'd give this shave a 3.5 out of 5

    I know it will get better with a little practice though. For some reason, I feel like an all-pro wet shaver now!;) (I better not get to cocky!):rolleyes005::D
