-Thursday- rocket/parat semogue 820 b & m waves good morning gents first shave of the year with a neglected shave set, waves. this used to be tops for me ,but i have so much better.. or i can lather stuff better, either or. finicky at first then i loaded it like "it owed me"to quote others, maybe it needs daily use to come back.. finally a great lather but i had to get more from the puck each pass. maybe it's too old.. smooth 2 passer with the parat, matching splash to finish will give this set a few shaves in succession to see if it comes back. or should i try a 3017 with it mwf is like that if i remember correctly will try a 3017 with it then awesome. have a fine day everyone
I like Pour Un Homme, it reminds me a lot of A Taste of Heaven but at a more friendly price point. It is a nice non cloying lavender scent.
Ah the legendary 2011 R41, my favorite DE. You have 'glamping' in the US? I thought that was a Korean thing.
That brings back happy memories of the 30 Day crew and some of the crazy shaving stunts people would perform for our entertainment.
i also have Barrister Reserve Classic shave set, dupe of the Sun Up Gillette set from the late 60's.Needs to go as well.will include this in my 3017 with Gold gillette razors...i have no intentiom of replacing these sets.i have stopped smoking cigarettes for over a year now.quit cold turkey.i am sure i can do these 3017's ..please be patient..
Day 8 April 25th Schick ‘66’ w Personna Omega Pro / Poculi beehive JOHS Blood on Steel LE SS Thayers Shulton OS Lime I realized I hadn’t reached for this nimble Schick in quite some time. I prefer the heft of the modern Supply Injector, but the shave was fun, smooth and efficient. The focus is rolling along. Great lathers every day. Thanks for all the well wishing posts- I’m doing better, but MrsSpartan is a day or so behind me in getting over the bug.
Castle Forbes Finished . Great stuff and I like their lime scent the best out of their line up. Hart Steel 7/8, Pladin brush and MDCI Invasion Barbare were not enough to send the CF off... So I went with one of my favorite blades, a fancy looking Dorko 7/8 with it's almost matching Rooney brush. SMN Acqua di Cuba for when I want a leather and cigar scent that's works in warm weather. CF is great stuff and I was adding liquid lanolin that pushed over the top. May 6 I will head to Phuket for some R&R, until then I will rotate through some soaps to select the next 3017 victim.
Congrats, Keith. Agreed, the CF Limes is a great product. Great straight up Lime scent and a slick, slick lather. A repurchase at some point?
Yes, it is a definate repurchase. I will visit my brother in England this summer, so I will buy it then and avoid the shipping expense. It is one the few soaps I feel compeled to replace.
The contenders..both sets were purchased in the same era,2018 ish.while the razors won't stay the same i will at least use gold razors with gold product...have to maintain those matching pics....I may take the odd Sunday shave off as a break.. i liked both sets when i got them, but got quickly overwhelmed with other product when the "chasing the soap base" race started up..i have gotten wiser (i hope) these days, but have a lot of excellent soaps and creams to use up and have been too spoiled to let finicky product hamper a shave.these are finicky by my standard, not modern williams finicky but they don't produce what one would expect from a good load on the brush.I think Jason @jtspartan had similar issues with his reserve sample..? Both of my sets were stored in cool dry conditions so no issues there, this will challenge my OCD tendencies as i do get bored easily, but i do intend to complete this challenge.. let the games begin..
April 26, 2024 Ever-Ready 1912 GEM PTFE Paladin Stirling Glacial Citron Shave Soap & Aftershave Happy Friday Everyone! I seemed to recall getting very rough shaves from this Ever-Ready razor. I must have been mistaken. The shaves thus far have been stellar. I am pretty sure this razor will not be leaving the den after all. Take care and have a great day.
-Friday- rocket HD soc boar waves good morning gents second shave with the waves set. this time with the HD similar results with the soap as yesterday slick enough to do the job,but glad when it's gone. i have 2 sets to use,so this will be a long 3017 challenge.. thankfully i have a couple of different razors floating around.. *** i won't bore you guys to death with every shave, but will check in as progress develops.. you can see my daily antics in " the other" thread..
Well done, Keith. I am mos def® in the minority regarding CF Lime. To my acute sense of smell, all I get is... How do you pronounce Phuket? BTW, scored a vintage bottle of the Caron. Looking forward to giving it a go upon return from "Hillbillyville"...aka Kentucky. @wristwatchb Dr. Mrs. Primo and I, along with some long-time friends from Texas, are here glamping. The women-folk spent some time at the American Quilters Society Quilt Week in Paducah, KY.
