I am continuing the Test Plan, moving on to durability. I switched the vintage Schick blade from my Schick E-1 to my preferred injector, the Supply 2.0 retrofitted with the SE comb plate, and continued. This was shave 3 on the blade; I expect to do at least 10 before I notice much difference in the blade.

The Arko stick and synthetic brush created a quick and plentiful lather, as usual. I then did my two standard passes of WTG on the face and ATG on the neck, then XTG on the face and WTG on the neck.

The two passes resulted in a virtually error-free DFS. I had no nicks, cuts or visible razorburn, but the alum was tingly in spots, mainly under my chin. I believe this is just my skin adjusting to daily shaving after a couple years of weekly shaves. I rubbed on some handy Nivea balm as a precaution and also general moisturizer.

This bottle of Nivea balm dates back to somewhere between 2010 and 2015 but still seems fine. I think the fact the bottle is glass rather than plastic has helped to keep it from drying out.

I am aware of only two modern injector razors, the Supply and the Parker Adjustable. There may be others but none I can comment on. Most of the other modern SE razors use the longer but equally narrow Artist Club type of blades. And my perception is that they do tend to be designed to land on the aggressive side of the spectrum - sometimes quite aggressive.

Supply started with one model with three interchangeable base plates for varying aggressiveness. That has now been replaced by two models - the almost-idiot-proof SE and the variable aggression Pro:

The Pro is dial-adjustable much like the Schick M but better designed. It has 6 main settings with 30 in-between settings - the dial is basically infinitely adjustable. The first setting would be milder than the mildest vintage Schick model and it would go up from there to whatever Supply considers wide-open aggressive for an injector.

I had one of the original three-plate models, added the new SE plate when it came out, and have never bothered buying the dial-adjustable Pro. But it has good reviews.

The SE is the original model fitted with a single plate that has an open comb (Supply calls them "fins"). Supply designed the razor especially for beginners switching over from multi-blade cartridge shavers. It claims the specific design of its fins or comb makes the razor "nick-proof".

After retrofitting my 2.0 with an SE plate and testing it, I would say the design is "almost" nick-proof. I did once manage to nick myself with it, but it took concentrated effort and idiocy: I ran the razor across the slack skin on my neck without stretching the skin taut with my off-hand or even raising my chin to tighten it. One wrinkle did snag a bit to give me a pinpoint weeper. Otherwise, I would say the razor does live up to Supply's claims while still giving an efficient shave -- I have never needed more than two passes to be cleanshaven.

The Parker Adjustable is a reworking of the old 1960s or 1970s all-metal (but still lightweight) PAL Adjustable. I have one. It uses a slightly different shave angle than the Schicks (like the PAL injectors did), but once you find the sweet spot, it works well. The twist dial has five settings from mild to reasonably aggressive. Good injector razor too.

Oh, one last thing: the dial-adjustable Supply Pro and Parker Adjustable are both true injectors that require a cartridge "key" to loosen the spring enough to inject a blade. The adjustment mechanisms need to stay firmly in place, so both razors are permanently assembled.

The Supply SE, by contrast, uses a baseplate held in place by a thumb screw compressing a coil spring. Unscrew the thumbscrew and the plate comes off to allow thorough cleaning of the razor -- or "placing" instead of "injecting" the blade. Especially handy if you can only find those injector blades that come in keyless cartridges or if you wish to avoid any risk of "blade scrape" while loading.

Thanks, Gary. Yes, a little of the Nivea aftershave balm goes a long way, so the bottle seems to hold enough for about 1000 uses or so. One of the better drugstore commercial products out there if you need balm.

I think the Gillette Aristocrats still are one of the best DE razors ever made. Elegant, slick design, nice weight, smooth shave and very good looking.

Here I've been talkinabout geese and pussycats before my shave report. Well, shux. Good to be back with Barbasol lovely goo again. I dunked the can under the warm tap water to try to get it to come out like a cloud, not a squggly snake. The former won out. One healthy pass, although I went over some spots on North Porcupine a couple times just to be sure. Nice work everywhere else. The Fine Latigo A.S. felt cooler. . Knize 10(the classic fragrance Latigo copies) features its leather strength, but it's a cooler lesather than you might find with other leathers. Maybe that's it's known supposedly as the best men's leather scent out there. Different, I'll say that(I just DID, lol). Anyway, zero on cuts, Knicks, Polka-Dots. Finished again with Millionaire cologne. Super Duper Outstanding.
