I'm feeling.brave and thinking about trying these. Anyone around here try either of these, or both? Opinions?? Anyone want to join me on this? Marmite (/ˈmɑːrmaɪt/ MAR-myte) is a British savoury food spread based on yeast extract, invented by the German scientist Justus von Liebig. It is made from by-products of beer brewing (lees) and is produced by the British company Unilever. Marmite is a vegan source of B vitamins, including supplemental vitamin B12. A traditional method of use is to spread it very thinly on buttered toast. Vegemite (/ˈvɛdʒimaɪt/ VEJ-ee-myte)[1][2] is a thick, dark brown[3] Australian food spread made from leftover brewers' yeast extract with various vegetable and spice additives. It was developed by Cyril Callister in Melbourne, Victoria, in 1922, and it was first sold in stores on 25 October 1923.
I have not tried either one but a few months ago I tried head cheese for the first time. I had been curious so I gave it a go. Wasn’t impressed so I don’t need to buy it again. Sometimes I look at things like pickled eggs or red hots in their big jars and wonder what those taste like.
I have not tried Vegemite, but I do have a ridiculously large jar of Marmite. It is okay on toast, but just a very thin layer.
I tried Vegemite, on Asiago Cheese Sourdough bread. I couldn't taste that much. I might have put too little on it, or the Asiago overpowered the Vegemite. Men At Work - Down Under (Official HD Video) (youtube.com)
Ok, back to back taste tests. I started with Marmite, then Vegemite. One bite each, until both were finished. So far, I think the Vegemite is the least off-putting of the two. So, I will continue the taste tests, until my palete becomes adjusted.
