    Great shave, Joe!

You can never go wrong with a vintage Schick E or G injector razor!

And Cella is great stuff! Of course, I have to say that, because in addition to having most of a red tub mixed into my monster tub of classic Italian soft almond soaps (the Red Green Duct Tape Special frankensoap), I also have one of those bulk commercial 1kg (2.2lbs) bricks of Cella soap stashed in the back of my sink cupboard "for emergencies" ...

Great shave and pic, Gary! That's a beautiful Aristocrat. And Schick did make good DE blades too, back in the day.

Well done, Paul! I have been eyeing those newer Clubman booze-scented aftershaves - the Gent's Gin and Whiskey Woods. Just haven't quite convinced myself I really NEED them though...

The old-school German cutlers still make great stuff, don't they?

Wednesday July 03 (early evening) - Just One July and JM Fraser's July

Prep: Hot face wash with Aleppo olive oil soap with 20% bay laurel oil

Razor: Supply 2.0 matte black stainless steel injector w/ SE "nickproof" comb plate / vintage American-made Schick Plus Platinum(?) (2)

    Soap: J.M. Fraser's Shave Cream

    Brush: APShaveCo 24mm SynBad fan

    Lather Bowl: None

Post: rinse, alum, rinse, ProRaso styptic gel

Last shave: Monday morning - 2.5 days

    The Just One July setup:

    IMG_20240703_175856_6_kindlephoto-9896163.jpg

That is the same stuff I used last shave, except I skipped the balm this time and had to use a styptic product.

I "think" I am using another vintage Schick Plus Platinum injector blade. When I was doing my comparison tests, I shaved once each with a vintage Schick, a Supply Black Label and a Personna white box. I set each blade aside after one shave and went on to the next, but didn't mark them. So I "think" the first in line is the Schick -- but I really can't tell.

Which really tells you all you need to know about the relative blade quality of modern injector blades. I think there is some difference in longevity, but the basic shave quality is so close that one is as good as the other. And the cost difference per shave is maybe a couple pennies at most.

As mentioned last time, my tub of JM Fraser's cream now has a firm, slightly rubbery surface - which is now located about 1/2" from the top of the tub. I probably still have about 8 months of daily shaves in there... A few swirls of the damp synthetic brush picked up enough cream to face lather a slick covering for my usual two passes.

I changed up my passes on my neck this time. I usually go WTG and then XTG on my face but ATG then WTG on my neck. This time, I did my neck the same as my face -- WTG and then XTG. No appreciable difference in the smoothness of the results but possibly a teeny tiny bit less irritation on my neck by not going ATG to start(?)

I think it might be a worthwhile change anyway, so I will continue with it this month and see what I think after several more shaves.

I did have one bloody mishap on my chin. A very visible blood spot. I rather suspect I nicked a heat rash pimple there. Anyway, the blood kept showing up even after the cool rinse, alum rub, and second rinse, so I dug out the ProRaso gel again. The gel is now gummy instead of runny, but it still works.

I am thinking of getting some of those styptic matches to replace the nearly-expired gel. Are they any good? Have any of you used them?

Hope my fellow Canadians had a great Canada Day holiday long weekend! And I hope you American enthusiasts have an equally good July 4th holiday!

Thanks John. I do enjoy shaving with my Friodur. I agree that the Germans made fine razors. However, the Britons didn't do too shabby in the razor making business.

Terrific shave and post John. I have never used styptic matches, but have used the pencils. Personally, I think you get more value with the styptic pencils, especially if you get the thicker ones made by Pinaud-Clubman.
