Do you scoop into that Fraser's with a brush? Perhaps a silly question, as I see a brush in your photo. Some tubs prefer just diggimg in by hand.

Back in the Saddle 30DC OG Shave

    Razor - Gillette Aristocrat
    Blade - Voskhod
    Soap - Arko
    Brush - Jayaruh JR46

Ok, here we go. Time to saddle up and get going.

Starting with an OG shave featuring a few of the classic products I've dug out of my collection.

The Aristocrat is one of the first razors I ever acquired and is a true classic beauty of a vintage Gillette. I used it in the very first month of the 30DC as we were all trying to figure these things out. Smooth and heavy it's a beauty to behold and use.

Anyone who remembers me surely isn't shocked at the blade choice. The Mighty Voskhod! My first 30 day challenge featured this blade and I've been a fanboy of Russian steel ever since. My second favorite Russian blade. Anyone remember my first favorite? Yes, it's quiz time boys and girls.

For the soap - the lemony goodness of the Turkish classic Arko. As you can see, I have nearly a lifetime supply.

And the brush - not from the very beginning, but a special one to me. My first Jayaruh, the JR46. Great handmade quality as those in the Jayaruh club know.

All in all a very nice and smooth shave!

Very nice shave and post Neal. If I have to guess, is it possibly Rapira?

Good guess! However, not correct. Rapiras (several different varieties) and Voskhod were (are?) made by Mostochlegmash in Moscow. So most of the blades are quite similar, though there are discernable differences in sharpness, smoothness etc. My favorite blade was also made by Motochlegmash for a limited period and sold in a limited market. (There's a hint for you) I discovered it on tryablade.com and consider it to be the best of the best. Not by much, but just enough to beat Voskhod.

Anybody else game for a guess?

The only other possibility would be Polsilver/Wizamet DE blades.

Now you're impressing me. Talk about a wealth of shaving knowledge. Still not correct but man are you ever going deep for guesses!

Polsilver/Wizamet were originally from Poland, but then went to Russia, St. Petersburg to be exact, under Proctor and Gamble. Fine blades, no doubt. I've used a few of them in blade trials.

Other Russian choices that are NOT correct are any of the Russian Gillette blades, also made in St. Pete's. Fine blades, but nothing that beats Voskhod or my still mystery favorite. IMHO anyway.

Well, I knew it wasn't the Russian Gillette Blades. Lol! I will have to think about it some more.
