Thanks Joe. To answer your question, in my opinion the Sterling is slicker. Holds the water better, gets more shine on the lather, doesn't dry out as fast. The T&H sandalwood has a nice mild scent, takes a bit longer to lather up and tends to thin out quite quickly if I add just a bit too much water. It's still good though. If I only had a short time left on the planet and had to choose just one of the two it would be the Sterling.

Having said that I will complete my short focus for the week with the T&H again, but tomorrow will pair it with my Red Tip.

30DC OG Shave of the Day - Back to the Basics

    Razor - Edwin Jagger 89L
    Blade - Voskhod
    Soap - Proraso Menthol
    Brush - Omega 10083

Today was a return to the very beginning for me. The first razor I bought, other than a Weishi, was the EJ 89L. This was considered a great beginner razor and still should be on that list of potential first razors. It has a nice heavy feel, looks sharp and is MILD. Good way to introduce someone a bit nervous about running sharp steel down their face. This razor is also fairly forgiving on bad technique (or newbie technique) while still delivering three pass smoothness that gets better with use.

The blade is, of course, Russian. The Voskhod again. I had tried a Voskhod in a tryablade.com pack and ordered a 100 pack. However, they didn't arrive in time to start my first 30 Day Focus, so Chris, formerly known as @BamaSamurai, mailed me a few packs to get started with. Love at first shave

Proraso was my first soap buy, and the BIG Omega brush was my first brush as well. You can make about 23.5 gallons of lather on this big boar.

Three passes today and it was quite fun to remember those early days when I considered this razor to be the finest in the land.

    July 11 SOTA Faceshave

    Hello again.

    Shavette Shave #563
    Dovo
    Personna Hairshaper Blade (10)
    MrEE LE #10 Cashmere Brush
Angora Soaps Midnight Lavender SS and AS Stirling Alum Block
    Personal Care Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 27 hrs

    20240711_132955.jpg

Yes, that's right. I am doing another shave, but this time it's a face shave. Sometimes I don't do a head and a face shave at the same time, especially when my face stubble is less than 24 hrs old.

Anyway, I chose my very first open blade razor for this afternoon's shave and that's my trusty Dovo shavette. Three error-free passes gave me a wonderful BBS shave.

I purposely used a tiny amount of soap and still made enough lather for my 3 passes albeit it was a thin lather. That's fine because it was super slick. Here's my lather:

I had very little alum feedback. Finished my postshave with the witchazel and matching application. Take care.

    Screwtape A Shaving Butterfly

Thursday July 11 (early evening) - Just One July and JM Fraser's July

Prep: Hot shower with Aleppo olive oil soap w/ 20% bay laurel oil

Razor: Supply 2.0 matte black stainless steel injector w/ SE "nickproof" comb plate / vintage American-made Schick Plus Platinum(?) (4)

    Soap: J.M. Fraser's Shave Cream

    Brush: APShaveCo 24mm SynBad fan

    Lather Bowl: None

    Post: rinse, alum, rinse

Last shave: Tuesday morning - 2.5 days

An early evening shave but a late night post...

The usual Just One July setup:

    IMG_20240712_002641_2_kindlephoto-1080687.jpg

For today's exciting photo, I showed the big tub of shave cream from a different angle to display the contents. As you can see, lots and lots of cream to go yet.

I also removed the ProRaso styptic gel because I avoided needing it again this time but included my alum "block" instead on the tub lid. I am debating whether I should break out a fresh new big alum block to replace that sliver. However, I can still hold it with two fingers to rub it over my face, so I don't think I need to get carried away yet.

It was the usual good shave with this setup. The shave cream easily whipped up into a creamy slick face lather with sufficient in the brush for my two passes. I am finding my neck feels much less irritated with the new pass pattern that omits the first ATG pass.

Hope the week is going well for everyone. I notice the heat and humidity here even has my tub of JM Fraser's sweating slightly....
