    Adjustable, Arko, Aloe Vera, Astra, (oh, and Alum)

    04 Aug 2024 .jpg

    Days growth = 1
    Prep = COLD water prep, real chilly outside
    Preshave = Proraso
    Cream/Soap = ARKO + Aloe Vera
    Brush = 10049 boar
    Bowl = Timeless
    Razor = Merkur Progress Adjustable
    Blade = Astra Superior Platinum (1)
    Passes = 2 + WTG face and jaw, mainly ATG and XTG in the neck areas to get real close
    Post = Usual CWR, Alum, rinse, pat dry, Thayers, Nivea balm
    ASL = Old Spice
    Scent = Santal Spirit Sandalwood
    Score = 9.9 /10
    Damage = none

    More water added today, around 15 mls compared to around 7 mls yesterday. Certainly does help!
    Superest smoothest shave ever. Yesterday’s longevity was superb with the SE, with little stubble creeping back in late in the evening, but I think today will be just as good. The Progress was set at 3 and delivered its usual crisp audible feedback. It took only a few moments to adjust to the weight of this thing (and the bulky head), then back on track and off to the races. The Astra was sharp and smooth, as good as I remember, good to have a few tucks of these stashed away

    The Thayers Lavender was finished 2 days ago, it lasted nearly a full year. I am enjoying the Rose scent even more

    What more can I say? as good as it gets

    Enjoy your Sunday ladies and gents

    Well shux....another one of those "bullpen needed" shaves, where it began not so good, but ended fine. I thi k what caused it is not getting enough soap onto my face and neck. I must find a way to load the brush with a soap that is only visible along the perimiter of the puck, not the middle. That is all that is left from the Razorock Lime Burst now. Turning it on its side and rotating may be the solution. Zero cuts and Polka-dots, 3 Knicks, all along Porcupine Alley. 2 passes. No issues anywhere else. The cold water rinse and Coniferous A.S. helped clear the redness.Although everything looks fine now, it gets a Kinda Outstanding.

    August 4 SOTM

    Good morning.

    Straight Razor Shave #567
    6/8 Thiers-Issard Spartacus
    Rockwell Synthetic Brush
    Seaforth Sea Spice Lime SS and AS
    Stirling Alum Block
    Personal Care Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 48 hrs

    20240804_000029.jpg

    I went with my Spartacus straight this morning because I haven't used it in quite awhile. This razor is still sharp because it took down my 48 hr stubble without any issues. Three passes for a smooth comfortable shave. I would say that it is a low BBS quality shave. Somehow, I got a micro weep on my chin, but disappeared. However, I did hit it with the alum and there wasn't any zing or sting. Must have been a tiny surface scratch. Anyway, it proved to be no big deal. It's why I prefer cold water shaves year round so that my skin is tight and makes it easier to shave, thus minimizing any breaks in the skin.
    As for the soap, I went with the Seaforth Sea Spice Lime. The scent is just wonderful. Obviously, you get the lime, but I also get the hint of being on the beach with the smell of the ocean air. Don't ask me how it's done, but it is quite intoxicating off the puck. Here's my lather:

    I did get some alum feedback on my neck, but that's all. Splashed the witch hazel and that glorious matching aftershave and I am good to go. Take care.

    SRS # 1142 - Sample Soap Sunday - Areffa Tarot

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: Martens HDW Co. 11/16” Kingwood scales
    Brush: Semogue Hereditas - Boar
    Pre-Shave: Pears Transparent Soap
    Lather: Areffa Soap Tarot
    Aftershave: Areffa Soap Tarot
    Additional Care:
    Omega Alum
    Dickenson’s Original Witch Hazel
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm

    A warm, muggy day here in the Northern Den. Not to be outdone, the Southern Den is currently dealing with Tropical Storm, soon to be Hurricane Debbie. Fortunately, the worst of that storm will be in the Panhandle region of Florida.

    Nonetheless, I had a great shave this morning. The Areffa Tarot soap sample, PIF’d to me courtesy of our Gran Poombah, Joe, @Trigger, upon his return from a Pasteur’s meetup last Fall is o e phenomenal soap. One o the highlights of this soap is the inclusion of bear fat. To my face, even better than wool fat. See description below. Three PT (You know what I am talking about Budaaah) free passes to shave Nirvana.

    Here is a detailed description of the Areffa soap from the artisan.
    “The Ukrainian artisan manufacturer offers an exclusive opportunity to try out soap brewed with bear fat, this is the highlight and the main feature of all fat soap lines, both hard and soft. Bear fat contains beneficial omega 3 acids that are not synthesized in the human body, but are so beneficial for the skin. The especially mild effect of the soap will be appreciated by people with problematic and reactive skin prone to irritation and itching.

    Bear fat has unique cosmetic properties:
    - has a powerful antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effect;
    - promotes rapid healing after cuts;
    - instantly softens the skin. Agave tallow-based shaving soap perfectly combines the classic approach to soap making with modern trends. The composition of the soap is chosen so that you can whip up a gorgeous, creamy foam in the shortest possible time. Shea butter as a care component, nourishes the skin, makes it smooth. Suitable for any skin type.

    - Cooked on the basis of bear fat;
    - does not contain synthetic surfactants;
    - 99.8% natural product;
    - enriched with shea butter.

    Luminous and sophisticated fragrance lays on the skin like an amber floral and woody breeze. A poetic alchemy, where the aerial notes of jasmine and the radiance of saffron carry mineral facets of ambergris and woody tones of a freshly cut cedar wood.

    Fragrance Type: Floral, Oriental
    Top note: Jasmine, Saffron
    Heart note: Woody amber
    Base note: White cedar, Spruce resin”

    I know I have enough soap to last me for at least another 15 years but this one is tempting me. Also, on the Areffa website there are several other bear fat soaps. Extremely tempting.

    Hope you all have a great day gentlemen.
