  1. 15 OCTOBER 2024: OCCASIONAL OCTOBER

    3 day’s growth, so I brought out a vintage OC

    Usual hot water prep
    Pre-shave = Proraso cream Aloe and Vit E
    Soap = Proraso green (menthol)
    Brush = Omega Black Hi Brush synthetic
    Razor = Gillette OC so called 102 from around 1912. Wrong case, but I give that away last year some time because it was worn, but it fits nicely. The thread on the razor is so worn so it was a bit hard to tighten up, will need some more thread tape in future to help nip this one down nicely
    Blade = Gillette Platinum (2)
    Passes = 3
    Post = usual rinse, alum, rinse, Thayers, Nivea balm
    ASL = decided to complete the Proraso triple with the green Rinfrescante

    Learnt a few things today. This razor is quite aggressive. The cap is narrow and flat and the blade is presented at a less forgiving angle than some others. Need to really find the correct angle and stick with that, using very light strokes, hence 3 passes were needed, but you can get real close.
    The PR Green soap isn’t really that mentholated but lathers nicely over the PR cream that I used as a pre-shave

    Super smooth all over except for lower right neck which I felt it was not worth chasing (in the interests of losing any skin). I think the regular use of this little razor will hone my technique quite nicely, it is less forgiving than say a Rocket HD or similar, but by the same token forces you to focus and plan what you are doing

    The Alum was alive especially in the neck area

    No ATG needed

    Binned the blade, I am binning them after only two shaves this month to reduce the number of variables in my shaves

    Hope you had a great start to the week and and enjoyable Tuesday

  2. October 15 SOTM Head and Face Shave

    Good morning.

    MicroTouch TTO Razor
    Gillette 7 o'clock Permasharp DE Blade (fresh)
    JR #290 Cashmere Brush
    PAA/King R Emporium SS
    Pinaud-Clubman Classic AS
    Stirling Alum Block
    Personal Care Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 42 hrs
    Dome Turf: 3.75 days.

    I have not used the MicroTouch Razor in awhile so I went with it. I decided to switch out and bin the Gillette Wilkinson Sword blade despite having 5 shaves on it. I know that I could have continued with that blade, but why risk it with this mild razor. The fresh 7 o'clock Permasharp blade did a great job. I did 3 passes on my face and dome for a BBS result with no bloodshed. However, I did have to do some pickups on the dome after the third pass and I expected it. The alum feedback was only on my left side of my neck.
    I picked the PAA/King R Emporium SS because it's super slick and gives an easy rich and creamy lather. Here's my lather:

    I finished this shave with the witch hazel and aftershave treatment. Take care.

    SRS # 1187 - OUDtober Shave - WK King of Oud

    Rating: 5 / 5

    Razor: Tuckmarr 5/8” Maccassar scales
    Brush: Opus Shaving Brushes “Underdog”
    Pre-Shave: Pears Transparent Soap
    Lather: Wholly Kaw King of Oud
    Aftershave: Wholly Kaw King of Oud
    Additional Care:
    Omega Alum
    Dickenson’s Original Witch Hazel
    Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm

    Wonderful first shave back in the Northern Den. Fall is definitely in the air. Another fabulous lather with the KoO soap. The scent of the soap and splash, as previously expressed, is refreshing on the lighter side.

    Three passes with the Tuckmarr straight delivered a close and comfortable shave.

    Hope you all have a great day.
