Thanks. I've actually been on the forums since 2019, just new to this thread. I had a previous profile years ago as well but went inactive for a while then rejoined. Couldn't find the old account so had to start a new one. I've been wet shaving for around 20 years. I used to absolutely hate shaving. One day I was looking around an antique shop and saw a straight razor for $8. It had surface rust all over it, but I could see that it was in otherwise relatively good shape and the there was no pitting just light even surface rust. I didn't know much if anything about them but for some reason I thought, what the heck why not. It was only 8 bucks anyway. I took it home and after cleaning all the rust off I looked online a little to see how to clean it and sharpen it. I did my best with what I had, which was a piece of glass and some 2000 grit sandpaper intended for wood working. Then I shaved with it. Surprisingly the shave wasn't half bad. It was a bit tuggy but it got the job done with no cuts and actually less irritation than the 3 to 5 blade cartridge razors I was overpaying for. I was hooked. I joined a straight razor forum and never looked back. I shaved exclusively with straight razors for several years and acquired a few nice ones. Then my wife and I had our first kid. It was shortly after that when I got interested in antique safety razors. Mostly because with taking care of the new baby I didn't want to be getting out my hones and sharpening the straits as often. My first safety razor was a short handle Gillette Black Beauty. ( aka Super Adjustable) I still have it. Forward 16 years and we have 3 kids. 16, 13 and 11. (Soon to be 12) and my razor collection has grown A LOT. I've never contented because if my wife asks how many I have I can honestly say I don't know.
very cool.ive been using vintage gillettes since late 2016,when i got my first fatboy.on the forum here since 2017.i collected DE and SE mainly until a financial decision forced me to pic one type.i passed along roughly 60 razors/sets and stuck with vintage gillettes, british mostly ..i basically used gillette cartridge razors since the early 1980s and gave up on them early 2016 and grew ouit the beard..i at least used williams soap and wilkinson soap and brush from around 2005,but still hated shaving..i still have far too much stuff ,but i made my bed..i will gladly lie in it..glad you are here..

that razor is really cool.and historically significant.. https://www.historic-structures.com/mi/detroit/detroit_steel_products.php
I live in west Michigan now but grew up on the east side of the state near Detroit, when I lived there I worked for my dad doing concrete cutting. I worked all over that area. The article says the buildings were demolished in 198. I wonder if I ever did any work on that site though.
