Update!! My former tub of TBS cream is now a rock hard puck of TBS soap!! I had to mill the damn stuff back into the original container. It still shaves great too. I also attempted the same same with a few other creams. I used one ounce scoops for each one: SCS Juniper Mist- After 10 days the cream was not noticeably harder. Very odd. AOS Sandalwood- It is now a hard soap Noxzema lather shave- Another soap Coates Rose- Now Coates Rose soap!! I will continue to experiment with others as well. I cannot understand why SCS's cream did not harden though. It really intrigues me.................
The shaving qualities of each was not changed. As for the lather, I just load the brush like I would any other soap. It honestly did not have any effect on the performance of the products. But, I believe dehydrating them will drastically increase the shelf life. Instead of the TBS creams lasting for 3 years, they might last for 30 instead.......... Same with the others.
No pictures dude. Just try it, and you will see the light. Once you see the light, your life will be changed.
I still dont see the use to be honest? Except for the novelty. II might try it some ....not so spectacular cream . I am low enough on TOBS Eton College and DR Harris Almond that they would be good candidates but hate to mess up perfectly good creams. are they as hard as say a soft soap?
They are not as hard as a soft soap, they are much harder. Like I said, the only real purpose of doing this from the beginning is to combat the spoilation of the creams over a long period of time.
I've had a few pots become dehydrated and did not like they way they lathered. They were not in the same league as soaps. I would not recommend it.
All the posts I have seen about re-hydrating a shave creams I suppose, there is always going to be one guy who wants to de-hydrate a shave cream . Leave the lid off, stir, leave, stir, leave, stir etc. Regards, Paul
Some products you can only get as creams, TBS and Musgo Real to name a couple. Some people prefer soaps and would like a "soap" version of good creams out there. Soaps are harder to contaminate as well. When there are both soaps and creams (like Trumpers, T&H, and Speick) there's really no reason to buy a cream and dehydrate it.
Makes sense. And actually, i started doing the same thing to an AOS cream. My grandpa had an old tub of the AOS sandalwood cream. It hasn't been opened in years. Anyway, I opened it and it was pretty dried out. It had some moisture left, but not enough to really be a "cream." So I scooped it out and formed it into the shape of a puck. It's now just chilling on the counter top waiting to become soap. And I owe it to this thread haha.
Forget it, my brother--these creams are perhaps good enough for my enemies to shave with. A good man like you does not deserve these garbages.
