Beautiful birth year razor Neil. I am an E1 type of guy. I do not have the Fatboy but I have the Red Tip and Flare Tip. One of those two will get this honors of the birthday shave later this month.

Excellent shave and setup Troy. It is pretty common that you have to heavy load a badger brush. So, if you want to quickly use up soap, then by all means use a badger.

So you got my curiosity regarding the SoTD thread. I did notice that you do list your “plan” there however with the odd lack of information like here.

In researching the SoTD thread I have notice that several prominent 30DC members post there daily shaves there as well, including Gary, @brit and Barry, @palmolive fox. As a matter of fact, the posting is the same on both threads.

So my research begs the following question: If you are able to list your plan there why not copy and paste your “plan” from the SoTD to the 30DC thread?

I suspect that there may be several reasons for your decision to not include the aforementioned “plan” on the 30DC thread but first another thought.

In the past year or so, several seasoned members of the 30DC as well as former members of the 30DC have encouraged you in a variety different matters including shave technique to limit your almost daily blood letting to posting your shave lineup. Unfortunately, you have been resistant to our genuine desire to help and to learn about your shaves.

The possible reasons for your could be:
    1. You have technology challenges that prevent you from copying and pasting information even though it is easier than posting a picture.
    2. You are on too many Shaven Den and possible other shave social media that you do not have the time.
    3. You just do not give a rats “petunia” to the opinion of others and will do whatever suites you even though it may give others the opportunity to understand you shaves and even learn a few things.

I understand it takes time to list and post item, therefore, one of the reasons I forwarded you a template. Also, if a person takes the time to write a detail post I look forward to reading it and the possibility of learning a few things.
Case and point was the discussions over the past few days by Neil, @NCoxSTL , John, @Screwtape and Gary, @brit to name a few regarding the longevity of the various DE razors including Gillette and the Merkur 34c. Very informative which is one of the purposes of the 30DC thread.

I can only hope that something I have said hear or from others will get you to realize that we would like to value you post in the spirit that you intend. Right now you are leaving us wanting.
    Otherwise you are just
Shoveling a load of Malarkey Paul.

I think it's a combination of #1 and #3. I have accepted advice from some members on some issues, but not all. I really don't know what else to say about your post, other than what I've already said about this topic.

    Razor - 1959 (E3) Gillette Fatboy (9)
    Blade - gillette-7-oclock-super-stainless.jpg
Soap - Jeeves of Hudson Street Bay Rum
    Brush - Custom Badger/Boar
    Finish - Ogallala Bay Rum

Next up on the Gillette tour this month is another birth year razor, the E3 Fatboy. This is a new acquisition which joins my other Fatboy that will be up tomorrow night. Great condition on this razor, really super and it was a great price too. :happy108:
I paired the Fattie with a Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Stainless blade. Sharp and smooth, and a good choice anytime. I opened the Fatboy up all the way to 9, because that's just how I roll, and anticipated a great shave.

Soap was Jeeves of Hudson Street Bay Rum, and my custom badger/boar brush didn't hold back on the lather. Love the luxurious yet slightly scritchy feel of this brush. I could make this a daily driver. The razor and blade worked exactly as they should and I did a full three pass, simply because I wasn't done after two. My shave was probably done, but I wanted more of that brush and lather and another run with that Fatboy gap and angle. Finished up after with the Ogallala Bay Rum and it was a fantastic finish.

Since we've mentioned blade gaps and aggression during the time spent with the four early Super Speeds I'll include some data here on the Fatboy. The Red Tip SS has a gap of .029 inches making it the largest gap of those razors. It's also the heaviest at 65 grams. The Fatboy at 9 features a .045 gap and weighs 78 grams. The combination of larger gap and heavier razor definitely makes it a more aggressive choice. However, you can start the Fatboy at number 1, giving you a gap of .022 inches. Smaller gap than the Red Tip, but the weight of the razor will still have an effect. Blade angle is also a consideration, but gap and weight are good indicators. The Fatboy did not disappoint tonight.

Some may ask if the Fatboy is the razor with the largest gap and weight in an adjustable. Nope. That honor goes to the Merkur Futur with a maximum gap of .069 inches (suitable for de-barking trees), and weighs 125 grams. Just some trivia (and foreshadowing) to enhance your day.

Job interview went very well. They have a couple more interviews to get through then they'll make their decision. I'm good where I'm at, would be a bit better there, so I'm happy with how things happen. Enjoy your day!

    January 13 SOTE
    Good evening.
    Shavette Shave #600
    Dovo
Feather Hi Stainless 1/2 DE Blade (5)
    Hembree/Maggard Timberwolf Brush
Captain's Choice North SS and AS
    Stirling Alum Block
    Personal Care Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 31 hrs.

    20250113_230303.jpg

This was my 600th shavette shave and what better way to hit this milestone but with my very first open blade razor. I learned to shave with this razor and after the 14th or 15th use that was a sole headshave, it was then that I knew that I could move on to a straight. Anyway, 3 passes gave me a super duper close and comfortable shave without any blood loss.

I went with the Captain's Choice North SS because I like the jasmine scent and it provides a rich, creamy and slick lather. Because of the late hour, I went for a face lather and therefore, no lather pic.

The alum feedback was not mild, but it wasn't harsh. Splashed on the witch hazel and the matching splash and I feel clean and refreshed. Take care.
