    Cost cutting is one of those things that, while I understand the thought process, often creates more problems than it solves. Sure you add profit immediately when you reduce the cost of an item, but if that item now sucks it is bound to cause a sales slowdown as even your loyal customers abandon it over time. Thus, less volume, lower profits and the vicious cycle continues. Sometimes I think companies decide their brand is untouchable as well, and that their customer base will follow along with any idea they come up with. Think "New Coke".
