    Late post, 2 family hospital visits today

    1 Days growth

    Soap = MWF today scored only a 0.5
    Brush = Pura Setola
    Bowl = face first >>>>> then white plastic bowl
    Razor = Gillette Slim set to 4
    Blade = Personna (2)
    Post = Usual CWR, Alum, rinse, pat dry, Thayer’s rose petal, Nivea Balm
    ASL = Imperial Leather
    Scent = English Leather
    Score = decent shave but the Fat put up a brave fight today
    Damage = minor nick over left sideburn skin lesion

    After some recent successes with the Fat, today I decided to try a different brush. The Pura Setola is also a boar brush but unlike the 10049 (which is 28 mm knot and 65 mm loft) has a knot of only 24mm and loft of 55 mm. Lightly bloomed the MWF, soaked the brush in warm water for around 5 minutes, shook dry, squeezed dry, dried it in the towel and set to the Fat for 100 swirls. To the wet face and the initial lather started off OK, but then started thinning out and drying out halfway through the first pass. Hmmm....what gives?

    Back to the puck to load more MWF, seemed OK initially, but more bubbly than I would like. Can’t be too much water because I hardly added any. So: maybe too little water, right? Therefore: back to the Puck, in for a penny in for a pound, then into the shaving bowl and brutalized the fat while slowly adding up to 20 mls water. Fairly filled the bathroom with a miserably bubbly mess of Mitchell’s Wool Fat and kept on going for a total of 4 passes. The Alum stung, the shave was outstanding, the Fat provided good protection despite embarrassing itself by not being able to hold itself together and behave like a decent shaving soap should. So overall I can’t call the shave a total failure, but I could hear the other soaps in my Den having a bit of giggle

    The Mystery of the MWF continues
    Could it be that brush-dependent?
    Could the water I soaked it in have been too warm?
    Or am I just expecting too much from it?

    Tomorrow: same setup and brush but back to the reliable Stirling

    After that I will try the MWF again but with a synthetic brush, since others have claimed some success with this

    MWF 0 + 0 + 1 +0.5 + 1 +1 + 0.5
    Sterling 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1

    I guess this is turning out to be a Mini-Mitchell focus of sorts :rolleyes: :think002:

    Not one to complain but it's getting close Lol!

  11. cool shave Chris.:cool: is the brush new? i use 24mm boar with my mwf,but boars can be lather hogs as the hair absorbs water,badger and synthetic do not.i tend to treat my boars with hair conditioner and they absorb less product..:)

  14. Fine Throwback shave today. I'm bginning to get tired of the "Blade" razor's even though they are Pivot DisposeABLES. Maybe that's because I was able to buy a bag of the regular Gillette's the other day, which made me happy. Yeah, they contribute to a nice shave, but they're good for the time being onl. The Clubman dupe soap jumped onto the Stoylin brush with ease, to set me up for what was a nice paint job. Clean and cleasr all over, including a better job up at N.Porcupine, in that right corner area that has been giving me fits of late. 2 passes. No damage anywhere. Great close with Clubman A.S. Super Duper Outstanding.

    Freedom February

    Razor - Micromatic Open Comb
    Blade - Gem SE Blade (2)
    Soap - El Caballero
    Brush - Omega 10061 Boar

    Second day on the MMOC and I do believe it was even smoother than yesterday. If memory serves, the single edge blades tend to be better on day two. Or else I just did a better job and my memory isn't serving at all. Still, absolutely no complaints. I do remember (and I know I really do) that I once thought that the MMOC would be a very fine daily driver. Yes, I love my vintage Gillettes, but if I were to choose a single edge razor as my one and only, this one would be a top choice.

    The El Caballero is beginning to show a ring of death. Just starting out. I'd say I'll have this tub empty within a couple of weeks and be ready to move on to something else. Maybe some time with my mutton tallows from Stirling. Time will tell. I do know that this small Omega boar is a gem. I call this my BoS (Brush of Shame). I broke a no-buy streak to get this brush but it was well worth it. One of my favorites.

    Hope you have a good Valentine's Day Eve. For those of you with wives, girlfriends, significant others, etc.......don't forget the flowers, candy, and dinner. Nobody should go into the weekend in the doghouse!

    Two super shaves the past two morning. Thursday’s shave featured a soap I have not pull out from the depths of the den in over a year. Additionally, the newly acquired brush scuttle, Caribbean Turquoise, from an artisan on Etsy works perfectly. I use it for iced water shaves with the scuttle chilling the lather on the brush.

    This morning’s shave featured the C-Mon straight paired with the DG/CL software collaboration.
    The scent profile is:

    Both shaves resulted in an exceptionally close and smooth facial finish.
