    Thanks, Gary! It’s a shame Colonial is not making new razors. I have the Silversmith (DE) and the General (AC Club). Both are excellent shavers. The founder, Kyle, is like many of us were at his age (late 30’s) caught up with children, family and new business opportunities. When their current model sells out, that will be it.

    A joyous welcome return my friend.
    Wonderful shave set up Jeff, its great to see you are giving MWF some appreciation. I still add it to my soap rotation occasionally with my usual eclectic shave set ups.
    I look forward to your future postings. Take care.
    Yours- Barry.:)

    Thanks, Barry! I’m fortunately stocked up on the old formula. The new palm-based formula just isn’t the same. I have three old formula cakes left, and when they’re gone, that’s that. The same is true for Nancy Boy which has shuttered their doors. I’m praying that Castle Forbes doesn’t do the same! I guess you’re one of the old hands around here now! Always enjoyed your posts. Did a little background reading and saw you were cartridge shaving for a while. My grandson really likes cartridges and claims it’s very hard to nick oneself with them. How do you like them compared to traditional DE’s or SE’s?

    i think Castle Forbes does the business to help finance the castle expenses..like many aristocrat families of the past..same as Goodwood

    Hi Jeff,
    Your grandson is correct it's very hard to nick yourself when shaving with cartridges....However, for me personally, I find the shaving experience quite "soulless" and could never return to using them on a permanent basis, that said, if for unforeseen circumstances I couldn't no longer use my DE or SE razors for medical reasons etc then carts would be my choice.

    I have mentioned before that when I first started to fully shave my head and before I had the confidence to shave with a DE or SE razor my choice razor of was the Gillette guard which are made in India for Gillette, I also like to use occasionally the Indian Trac 2,(clone) and the Cien twin blade for my head/dome shaving.

    My first maiden shave with it felt like I was shaving with a potato peeler due to it's tilting head, but what I really like about is it doesn't clog up due to it been open comb and having a large blade gap, one of the few if any open comb single edge cartridge razors on the market. It's excellent for tight spots and problem areas. Like all cartridge razors they are designed and manufactured for quickness to give a presentable acceptable one pass WTG fuss-free shave 'you're not going to get a shave from it like a DE or a SE razor granted, but it's not bad, the overall shave performance from this one-blade cartridge razor gives a "socially acceptable shave".

    It's a great shave that MWF is no longer with use, due to not been in favour with new hyped manufacturing offering, due to it been "Traditional" which could no longer compete in the mass produced shaving product manufacturing world anymore, sadly like lots of other great traditional shaving product makers.

    It all boils down to greed and profit....Take Tabac as an example, like MWF they emitted the two expensive ingredients which are tallow and coconut and replaced them with Laurate and other cheaper synthetic ingredients. The price remained the same and profit margin increased!....I can't comment on the performance of the new vegetal formula of Tabac but I've read reports that it is equally to the old tallow formulation. I still have virtually used cake of MWF also have one remaining unopened cake of both MWF & Tabac left of the old tallow formation. Enough said...Take care.
    Yours- Barry.

    19 Feb 2025: Shave Free Day

    20 Feb 2025

    Soap = MWF
    Brush = Omega 10049
    Bowl = face lathering, then back the bowl
    Razor = Gillette Red Tip
    Blade = Vintage Henckels (4): still going strong
    Post = Usual CWR, Alum, rinse, pat dry, Thayer’s rose petal, Nivea Balm
    ASL = Imperial Leather
    Scent = Prada Ocean Luna Rossa
    Score = 9 + / 10 superb start to the day
    Damage: none

    The Fat let the side down badly today, but despite that the shave was a great one. It behaved like a sullen little 2 year old and refused to yield. Started off the same as before, damp/almost dry brush, onto the puck which had been blooming for a while, 100 odd swirls, to the face, initial lather looked promising, dipped into the water lightly, back to the face, and it rapidly turned bubbly and dry. Kept adding more water slowly, resulting a drip-fest. Back to puck to load more MWF twice over, but the Fat stubbornly refused to play ball. Plan B: back to the bowl, adding more and more water, accompanied by some brutal elbow grease. Failure. Plan C: added some of the T&H No 10 shave gel to the brush to rescue the shave. Each part of the face had to be lathered up separately to avoid the lather drying out, I guess I must have done about 5 or 6 passes, which resulted in a superb but somewhat frustrating shave. So I have added more water to the Puck, placed the lid back on and re-sealed it into the zip lock bag. I remained baffled!

    The Red Tip and the Henckel blade were an absolute delight and rescued the day.

    MWF 0 + 0 + 1 +0.5 + 1 +1 + 0.5 + 1 + 1 + 0 = 6
    Sterling 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 8

    Happy Thursday to one and all

    Classy set up again Gary

    Alum feedback and no blood makes for a good shave imho

    Thanks Joe, one of my favorite ones

    More Gillette goodness...

    Cool brush Jeff, can't say the same about the wool fat, although I am trying hard to like it (or rather to get it to like me Lol!)
