    Saturday’s Cold Water Shave
    February 22, 2025

The bride left early this morning with her best friend, Mila, to take advantage of the Broadway Tickets I bought for her and Mila for her birthday. But not before requesting that I blow the leaves out of our garage before her return this evening. The one good thing about being a so-called “crippled” old fart, is that my “honey do list” has been limited mostly to single items.

After she left, I proceeded to enjoy the first really great shave I’ve had since my return home. My faithful “Red Imp” received a touchup on the Suehiro 20k last night. I find myself sticking with the Simpson Chubby which builds terrific MWF lathers. Two very slow, careful and luxurious passes with my Case “Red Imp” left the mug wonderfully smooth. Three passes with the Durham Speed Shaver delivered the same quality shave to my dome. Finished with a cold and refreshing rinse with my brush squeezings topped off with Stirling’s Glacial Ice leaving me smooth, clean and velveteen from neck to dome.

RAZOR: WR Case & Sons Red Imp 6/8 (Mug), Durham Enders Speed Shaver (Green) (Dome)
BLADE: Schick Type B Proline w/ Adapter
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: Simpson Chubby 3 Sovereign Fibre
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys WH. Finished with Stirling Unscented Glacial Ice

February 22 Headshave and Faceshave SOTM

    Good morning.

    Mühle R102
Gillette Super Platinum DE Blade (fresh, 2)
    JR #290 Cashmere Brush
    TSD Barbershoppe SS and AS
    Stirling Alum Block
    Beard Growth: 3 days
    Dome Turf: 6 Days

Yes, I really needed a shave. I just was getting lazy and let my dome have 6 days of turf and my face with 3 days of stubble. I can't pull off that look so it's the clean shaven appearance for me. Lol! Anyway, I went with my Mühle R102 that's perfect for a heavy duty shave. It's the first time that I have used a Gillette Super Platinum DE Blade and I have to say it's smooth, but sharp. I only needed 2 passes on the dome plus touchups so I am impressed. Did my normal 3 passes on my face and got a BBS result, but got a chin weeper that disappeared with the cold water. I got the same result on the dome, but no blood left that area.

Did get some significant alum feedback on my face and neck, but not on the dome. Splashed on the matching aftershave and I am good to go. Have a nice Saturday amigos.

    Today's setup:

    IMG_20250222_161005.jpg

The weather here has now risen to between -10 and 0 C - very nice. But I still have the full beard and moustache set - mostly.

Again, today was supposed to be a trim to get rid of the neckbeard part and clean up the middle of the cheeks to leave a crisply defined jaw outline. I have (or rather HAD) a full moustache and goatee linked to full sideburns by a thin crisp line of beard along my jawline.

I went with the nice calming scent of lavender in one of my favourite soaps/creams - TOBS shaving cream. It has dried out to a fairly hard croap but still lathers quickly and easily.

I did two passes to clean up my neck area - WTG and then ATG. Then I lathered my cheeks and did two passes on them - XTG and then WTG.

Unfortunately, I got so calm and relaxed that on the WTG pass, I dipped too far down on my left cheek -- and cleaned the thin beardline entirely off my jaw. That left me with the original setup on the right ... and just a funky sideburn on the left. Drat!!!

Oh well, there was only one thing left to do, so I did it: I relathered and removed the sideburns and jawline beard completely on both sides, leaving just the moustache and full goatee.

At least the shaving itself was competent -- no nicks, blood spots or razorburn and the alum was totally silent. And the TSD lavender "milk" splash provided a very nice finish.

Hope everyone is keeping well and is heading into a great week.

Great shave! I used to have a full beard, myself, but at my age, I looked like Santa Claus, so off came everything except the moustache after a similar incident to yours. This occurred while I was still in rehab. I was forced while there to use a disposable cartridge razor. Never had those issues with my straights. No better tool for neat beard lines. But hey, these things happen. Sounds like you’re content with the result. Enjoy your weekend!
