Excellent closeup photos of it! Thanks for showing us those, Gary. It looks more like a 2025 than a 1935 build date. NOS? Forgotten in some local drugstore's back storage room for 90 years?
Thanks, Chris! It restored my faith in both the razor and my technique. That last shave actually had me checking to make sure I hadn't installed the SE injector blade backwards...
Never seen a vintage Gillette razor that would give bad shaves once you learned its quirks. Your 66 sounds like no exception. And I always had good results with the Super Iridium blades too. Do you rub your "preshave" shaving cream onto your wet face and then face lather your brush-loaded soap/cream over that, or how do you use it?
Thanks, Joe. Stirling soaps always provide a good slick lather for me. And this time, the new injector blade behaved itself....
My sister has always been violently allergic to horses. When she was a teen, my parents bought a saddle blanket made a century or so earlier by a local Cree tribe artisan - heavily decorated with embroidery, beads, quills, etc. It probably hadn't been on a horse in over 50 years, and within minutes of it coming into the house, my sister's face was red and swollen and she was having trouble breathing. They had to get the blanket out of the house immediately, and ended up donating it to a local museum. A few years after that, we went to watch the RCMP Musical Ride perform. We were standing near the gate where the horses entered and exited the outdoor stadium ring, and as soon as the Ride started passing through, she had to move well upwind because she started wheezing. It has kind of soured me on ever trying any horsehair products in case she comes in contact when visiting... With lots of other options out there, better safe than sorry.
Very nice shave Chris. I do not know if I would push the blade if your intention is to keep your streak going.
SE shave # 450 - DECLARATION GROOMING MONDAY - Lamplight Penance Rating: 5 / 5 Razor: Ever-Ready 1912 SE Blade: GEM Stainless Brush: Whipped Dog Butterscotch 24 mm Lather: Declaration Grooming/Chatillon Lux Lamplight Penance Aftershave: Chatillon Lux Lamplight Penance Toner Additional Care: Omega Alum Dickenson’s Original Witch Hazel Stirling Unscented Glacial Balm The missus would be very happy with the outcome of this shave. She is a big fan of the super smoothness. There will be an additional reason for her to be happy today. The pool will be opened at some point today. Therefore, I was quite busy early this morning. Of course there is my morning X3 workout followed by a shower and great shave. I had to prep the area for the removal of the pool cover. Fired up the leaf blower to remove all of the oak pollen (looks like tumbleweed) and filled up another bag of leaves. Back to the shave: The usual three passes although I can easily get away with two, especially with the GEM or GEM type razor. They never fail to give me a great shave. The DG/CL soap provides a slight lather with a very nice scent. I am smelling and looking good. Hope you all have a great day.
Fine shave this morning. I was pleased to bring back the Proraso Tub soap. Clean&clear all over. It jumped onto the Boar. No cuts, Knicks, Polka-Dots, Red Ball Sunsets. 2 healthy passes. Nice finish from the Proraso A.S.. Repeat tomorrow(course a different brush). As Outstanding As It Gets. I dedicate this shave to @Yehuda D , as it's a bit chilly today for a coolish shave like Proraso Refreshing.
it was well used when i bought it,old blade in it,vintage whiskers even..there was some plating damage on the cap from deep scratches,so i substituted a nickel new LC cap on it.chromium plating doesn't seem to wear off like nickel or silver plate,so it did polish up nicely.handle had cracks as usual but i stablized them with epoxy.no case or blade bank.thankfully i paid little for it.
